I wouldnt think so, and positive is a postive from what i understand.. you can only get a false negative. I take it you are in a bit of shock hun .xx Congratulations.. I think !!

girlsyearapart · 13/01/2010 08:16

I doubt it either.

Fwiw I was pg with dd2 when dd1 when 3 months (though not bf ing and it was planned) and we are all still alive

You will manage.

shockednamechanger · 13/01/2010 08:17

So bf doesn't produce the hormones that give you a positive pg test?

Anyone any experience of this?

DorotheaPlenticlew · 13/01/2010 08:19

er ... don't think so, sorry, but you might want to do some wider Googling (I'm sure you already are).

Have a cup of tea and a sit down

memoo · 13/01/2010 08:19

No definately not! I'm think you might me pregnant xx

oopsandbabycoconut · 13/01/2010 08:19

No Shocked - BF does not produce HCG - HCG is only produced in large enough quantities for a pg test to pick up in pregnancy.

StealthPolarBear · 13/01/2010 08:20

from the mum of a 17wo ... wow, congratulations

shockednamechanger · 13/01/2010 08:22

Congratulations BTW.

StealthPolarBear · 13/01/2010 08:36

dying to know who you are!

shockednamechanger · 13/01/2010 08:37

girlsayearapart - did you have to take additional vitamin supplements or anything (apart from folic acid?) Do you think I need to get to the Docs asap or shall I wait for a month or so (think I must be about 4-5 weeks along, IF the pg test is telling the truth...)

OP posts:
oopsandbabycoconut · 13/01/2010 08:41

Shocked - if you are BF I would take a general pg supplement just to ensure you are getting eerything you need whiilst making milk and growing a baby, but just folic acid should be fine.

I would give the GP surgery a ring and see what they say about making an appointment.

girlsyearapart · 13/01/2010 08:46

I just took folic acid I think but I wasn't breastfeeding.

Even though it was planned it was still a shock but we coped fine and have 3rd on the way. Even with hindsight I wouldn't have done it any differently.

I went to the doc as soon as I found out as my first choice of hospital gets booked up v quick.

mspotatochip · 13/01/2010 09:02

I had a positive test at four months with two different superdrug tests(exclusive bf using condoms) recently then some negative ones clearblue. Doctor did bloods in the end and beta hcg was

shockednamechanger · 13/01/2010 09:08

Ok. Breathing again.

We haven't been using contraception, but thought we were in the clear as it took us a very long time to conceive our first.

Calculating back, I'd be either 6 weeks or just under 4 weeks pg. Been feeling a bit dizzy/sick for a little while, but too busy to dig out the tests, so I reckon must be 6 weeks ish.

Will get to Docs for an HCG and a telling off.

Stealth - will come clean once pg is confirmed.....

arrghh will never figure out links

shushpenfold · 13/01/2010 09:10

Congrats......quietly!

TheBossofMe · 13/01/2010 09:15

How exciting - marking place for later update!

shockednamechanger · 13/01/2010 09:15

Thanks Mrs Potato Chip. Though again at twins being more likely when you get pg when breastfeeding.

mspotatochip · 13/01/2010 09:30

If it makes you feel any better I was so worried then but thinking about it now and looking at my big sitting eating yelling stocky 7 month old I reckon we could totally handle it......

Of course that's easy for me to say

shockednamechanger · 13/01/2010 12:08

Bumping in case anyone else has had similar experiences to MsPotatoChip.

There's no doubt, there is a second, though faint, line on the test.

DH wants to wait a week or so and see if it gets darker before I go to the GP. Meanwhile I have started the Folic acid, iron and vitamins..... (was already taking them because of bf, but will be more diligent now.)

OP posts:
TheBossofMe · 13/01/2010 12:12

Oh, just go to the GP - waiting will just prolong the suspense!

I have had a similar thing with faint lines - all three times, it turned out to be pregnancy - only on DC, though :-(

TheBossofMe · 13/01/2010 12:13

That should be "only one DC"

shockednamechanger · 13/01/2010 12:15

The Boss of Me - similar experiences here too.

Which is one of the reasons I am a bit
