Congratulations.

Go to the GP and get tested, it does not make you more pregnant, you just know for sure faster.

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 13/01/2010 12:21

shocked, no experience of this but am very curious about who you are. Hope you're ok, it sounds like you are pregnant so congratulations. I don't know how long HCG stays in your system after birth, but it can't be that long, surely. Try not to worry too much (easy for me to say). It can't hurt to go to the GP if it's causing you stress.

TheBossofMe · 13/01/2010 12:22

3 of my friends have DCs with a similar age gap, and all of them wouldn't have it any other way - tough at the start but sooooo nice once the DCs are a little older and can play together. Plus all the hard stuff can be cracked in one go!

Best of luck and let us know what happens!

lateSeptember1964 · 13/01/2010 12:24

Happened to me. Just a year and 6 days between ds3 and ds4

mspotatochip · 13/01/2010 12:29

what brand was the test? seriously go to gp because it drives you round the bend otherwise. We had actually got used to the idea and were a little disappointed when it turned out to be a bfn. We'll get round to DC3 it someday I am fairly sure

shockednamechanger · 13/01/2010 12:29

Lateseptember - were you breastfeeding?? I am just GOBSMACKED that this might have happened to me. Are you superfertile after having a baby then? (I mean in general, not you in particular )

My doctor is just going to wet her pants laughing at me(after the conversation we had at the 6 week check)

Just an internet cheapie, Ms PC - but they are the ones I have always used and they've never been wrong yet.

UNLESS the HCG just hasn't left my system...? Bck to Google...

OP posts:
mspotatochip · 13/01/2010 12:35

we did that for a whole weekend and spent a lot of money on more tests.
one poster on here did ask me if I had a retained placenta but never came back to explain why that might be relevant? maybe retained placenta can cause hcg to hang around? The other thing we found was that some types of ovarian cyst (nastier types) can cause hcg to be produced, the doctor looked at me blankly but google did say so.

Still the most probable result is that you are pregnant

Yes, but I am breastfeeding twins.

Please don't out me if you know who I am.

Anyway, pg is far from confirmed yet. Only a faint line.

shocked my sister had the same experience - thought it would take a long time to concieve second time round as had first time......hmm it happened twice and she has 3 born 13months then 14 months apart. She is the best and happpiest mother that I know and said it might have been hard for a couple of months but they all get on so well and are brilliant together and her life is now so much easier than any of her friends! (She did get into a bit of grief from her doc though as they were 3 cs which isn't quite so good for your body so close together but has had no long term effects on her at all!)

Congratulations, might not be "planned" timing but you were obviously thinking about a second! Go to the GP and confirm it and look after yourself! You will just have to wait a little longer to go mad with the champers, !

Does you dh feel very pleased with himself?

shockednamechanger · 13/01/2010 13:03

Thanks, Doodley that is reassuring. Also aout the 'managing to cope' thing

DH in shock too

OP posts:
Doodleydoo · 13/01/2010 13:03

shocked just seen the twins - your dh must be super super fertile as must you! Brilliant - well there you go! Second what everyone has said about the dc's being good together!

mspotatochip · 13/01/2010 13:04

Its hard to believe you could be fertile again feeding twins. My doc was adamant full breastfeeding including night feeds made it v unlikely to get pregnant and you're doing that times two!

mind you nature can play v funny tricks

Doodleydoo · 13/01/2010 13:07

Shocked - if you are and it all works out well, could be worth investing in a little bit of help from time to time. That is how my sis managed as I know it can be hard at times (but then with twins you were always going to have that ). Have to say to all the ladies I have my hat off to you all, I am not sure I was up to doing it that soon....

SleighGirl · 13/01/2010 13:08

Shocked my periods returned straight away despite bf huge babies, not the same as twins I know but some people are more furtile just after having a baby than they were before.

I really think you should go to the drs sooner rather than later because you need to know.

You are going to be so shattered for the rist trimester!

DaisymooSteiner · 13/01/2010 13:09

hCG is produced by the placenta, so a retained placenta can theoretically give you a false positive pregnancy test. However, 4 months after the birth I think that's very unlikely, particularly as a retained placenta can also cause problems with milk supply and if you're breastfeeding twins exclusively I doubt youve got a problem with supply!!

Home pregnancy tests are extremely reliable so I don't think there's very much doubt that you're pregnant.

girlsyearapart · 13/01/2010 13:13

I am more suprised that you had the time to fall (potentially) pregnant whilst bf ing twins! you go girl

ShowOfHands · 13/01/2010 13:14

My periods came back whilst exclusively bfing day and night, every 2hrs when dd was 13wo. We weren't having sex so obv didn't get pg but bfing certainly didn't work as a contraceptive for me.

I have a friend who was exclusively bfing twins, felt rubbish, went to the doc. Was pg. With twins. She copes just fine and has a dc5 too!

It's extremely unlikely to be a false positive. You are likely pregnant though early days.

I've been pg twice and the gp has never tested to confirm it as hpts are as good as the ones they use. He just took my word for it.

Congratulations to you!!

BertieBotts · 13/01/2010 13:15

Just wanted to pop in and say there is a pregnant and nursing support thread on the breast & bottlefeeding topic if you are interested

shockednamechanger · 13/01/2010 13:19

Show of Hands

Twins then twins?

I am not telling DH that little anecdote...

Thank you everyone. Better get me to the GP then (gulp)

girlsayearapart - they are good sleepers

OP posts:
InmaculadaConcepcion · 13/01/2010 13:21

Maybe the medics reckon you're unlikely to get pg while doing the early months round-the-clock breastfeeding because most couples are too knackered to have sex until they've got past that stage (!)

Anyway, I'm not surprised you're daunted at the prospect of another DC so soon. I remember my sister's less than enthusiastic reaction when she accidentally conceived twins after her and her DP's third and positively last child!! She warmed to the idea after a bit and the twins are adorable.

Congratulations and good luck! Here's hoping for an easy pregnancy which doesn't add too much to the effort of looking after your twins!!

shockednamechanger · 13/01/2010 17:14

I think we might have got away with it - had a thought that I was using the same container as when 8 months pg (when I was testing for protein - suspected pre-eclampsia). Jar was rinsed but not thoroughly washed.

Have re-tested with a new container. Negative. Or at least the palest palest line I've ever seen. (so pale I think I am imagining it - DH can't see it). Maybe lurking HCG from previous pregnancy. Will retest in the am.

Thanks for all your support today.

Will update tomorrow.

OP posts:
SleighGirl · 13/01/2010 18:14

I was about to type phew but then I remembered that the HCG hormones are most concentrated in your first wee of the day hence why they tell you to test then. Also doesn't the hormone tail off throughout your pregnancy so if you test again at 16 weeks plus you usually get a negative......

shockednamechanger · 13/01/2010 18:21

Yes, you're right about using the first wee of the day early on- though I think the levels at the end of pg are still high - so high that the pg test is 'swamped' by them so shows neg.

Anyway, might all be academic as there is a faint line again this pm.

Will test in the morning for more conclusive results.

(now can you see why I use internet cheapies?)
