AF due yesterday.

I did a Clearblue HPT at 9am this morning. Negative.

Just looked again at the same test and it is very definitely positive.

Does it count as it is after the time window?

Shall I throw it away and pretend I haven't seen it?

Forgot to say - I am a regular who has name changed for this.

WinkyWinkola · 12/01/2010 11:54

No, it doesn't count. Do another test in three days.

spongebrainbigpants · 12/01/2010 11:54

It's an evaporation line I'm afraid - you need to retest to get an accurate result.

Disenchanted3 · 12/01/2010 11:58

EVERYONE will say its an evap line.

But when I had my first, I did a test and it was neg at 3 -5 mins, there was nothing there at all, I had it with me for about 10 mins

I binned it, a few hrs later I took it out (!) and had a look there was a colured line, a pink line.

So I went to asda got a clear blue and it was positive.

So I don't relly believe that test results come up within 10 mins then disregard after that.

Especially if it is coloured rather than shadowy.

Disenchanted3 · 12/01/2010 11:59

Bu you DO need to do another in a few days either way.

MoodyMartha · 12/01/2010 12:05

Yes, it's definitely a coloured line.

I'll try and forget about it and test again tomorrow in a few days.

Thanks ladies.

I threw one BFN test away, then got it out the bin say 5 hours later to find it had changed to a BFP. Dh went out to buy another one straight away, one of those digital ones, no lines to try and make out and it was pregnant.

I bet you are!!

peppapighastakenovermylife · 12/01/2010 13:01

I did this a few months ago. Two CB tests in fact - negative then a few hours later a strong positive. No other test showed properly positive and my period arrived.

I will never know whether I was pregnant or not really so possibly, possibly not .

Case of wait and see unfortunately.

MoodyMartha · 12/01/2010 13:34

Thanks for replying.

I've been looking at it again and although the line that makes the positive sign is definitely there, and is definitely blue, it also seems to be off to one side slightly. Do you think that makes it more likely to be an evap line? I've looked at some examples of positive results on google images and they all seem to be dead centre.

I suppose I'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks again

Just to say good luck!!

MoodyMartha · 12/01/2010 14:38

Thank you PP

I've just done a Tesco test which was negative after 3 mins and still negative after 10 mins. I know I should throw it away now but I want to obsess over it for a bit longer first

Right, I'm going to forget about this for now, and retest in a couple of days with FMU.

Thanks everyone.

arsebiscuit · 13/01/2010 16:30

This happened to me too, i tested a couple of days later and got a BFP straight away

MoodyMartha · 13/01/2010 16:40

Really? Well still no AF so maybe I should test again at the weekend if still nothing.

OP posts:
first1 · 13/01/2010 18:16

I tested the day AF was due...negative, the day after negative, the day after that negative and THEN I got the BFP 3 days late :D

MoodyMartha · 13/01/2010 18:23

Thanks First1 - very interesting.

Hmmmm......???

Well I'll try and hold out until the weekend and then waste a load more money on HPT's

I don't have particularly sore boobs or a funny taste or anything but I've been feeling a bit sick this evening. I think I'm just looking for signs though!

This is what happened with me as well. Tested on Friday and was BFN. By Sunday I was sure I was pregnant - tested again and nothing after 5 minutes so put it down in disgust and stalked out of the bathroom. Came back 20 minutes later and it was the faintest of faint lines (so faint DH said I was imagining it).

Tested again two days later (though waiting that long was torture) and...BFP! Now 33 + 6 with that late, faint line.

Good luck!

MoodyMartha · 13/01/2010 22:12

Congratulations PinkyPanther

I'll let you know what happens!

Clearblue are unfortunately infamous for producing an evap line after or even slightly before the time limit passes. Blue dye tests seem to have this problem more than pink dye tests, which is why First Response (or the cheaper equivalent, Answer, which has recently come to the UK) has always been my choice. Its advertised sensitivity is the same as Clearblue's (25MIU) but without the evap issues.

Can you tell I got a bit obsessed with pg tests during our journey TTC#1?

largeginandtonic · 13/01/2010 22:35

Hope you get the result you want and soon

Mama2b5 · 14/01/2010 01:18

Good luck - it is so painful to wait especially if you are TT for a positive!
I obsessed for a few years and when i less expected to get pregnant, just after i was in mourning with the loss of my mum, i thought not having a AF was stress but no, did clearblue digital - to see you are 5 weeks! was in shock!
now 38 weeks and waiting again!

my Fingers are crossed for you - take care xx

MoodyMartha · 14/01/2010 14:52

Thanks for the replies. Af has arrived so I guess I have my answer.

FrozenNorth - since doing the first CB I have been Googling evap lines and CB quite a bit and it seems that you're right in saying they are notorious for this. If I'm ever in this situation again I definitely wont be buying CB again, especially the one that makes the positive symbol.

Largeginandtonic - I think this is probably the answer that is best but still would have liked it to be pos. It's amazing how quickly you can get used to the idea of a new addition to the family

Mama2b5 - thanks for your good wishes. Congratulations on your baby - not long to wait now! Does your username mean this baby will be #5? Wow, you lucky thing!

Yes, I can imagine how painful it is to wait when you are TTC, especially if you're getting evap lines that look like a positive. It seems like a nasty trick to play on someone desparate for a baby.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply when I was getting all worked up!
