Stiffness in fingers & cramps in legs, can you help?

Hello, I am 34 weeks and over the past few weeks I have woken in the night with the most horrible cramps in my calves, it literally has me screaming in pain. When I go to bed at night it feels like my legs have filled with a fluid and if I move them in the wrong way, the cramp kicks in.

Over the past few days I have woken with no feeling in my fingers! I have to stretch them for a few minutes to get the feeling back, but the stiffness always remains. I know I am not sleeping on them, they have swelled slighlty, but not a lot.

Has anyone had similar or does anyone have any advice? Thanks

my sister told me to drink a glass of milk when I had cramps in legs - something to do with lactic acid...? worked for me

I had the numb tingly fingers recently - its called capel tunnel syndrome (on similar) its not harmful - its due to extra water in the extremeties and can cause problems in the fet to.

I also leap out of bed with cramp in my right calf - really hurts but tends to be short lived once I jumped around for a couple of minutes!!. I had these in my first pregnancy - teamed with blocked nose and ears and heart burn. Sadly it's all part and parcel of pregnanacy - I'm being a man in my next life!! I believe reducing down salt can help with the cramps and you can get wrist elastics to keep wrist swelling down at night.Hope this helps helenxxx

Thanks for that. I think the thing I was most worried about was it being the sympton of something more serious.

If it is just part and parcel, I can put up with that! I seem to have put up with alot in this pregnancy! Thanks very much for the advice, it is much appreciated! x

Do mention these to your Dr/MW next time you see them. I'm sure they are nothing to worry about - just 6(ish) weeks to go for you - I've still got 9 weeks!

Hope you are not losing too much sleep - I went to bed late last night to watch live8 - was woken at 3.45 with the birds singing! and again at 5 with cramp - my five year old son then got up 5.45 - it's fun!!Take care Helenx

The DP 'made' me ring the midwife this morning, as my next appointment isnt for another week your right they said it is carpel tunnel! I seemed to have suffered with alot of common ailments/illnesses in my pregnancy! But I am pleased, as my over active mind kept thinking of pre-eclampsia this morning!

I have never been this tired, ever! I havent had a satisfying night sleep for weeks. Does make you think that it is natures way of preparing you for sleepness nights with the baby!

Thanks again!

Yes - I remember sleep!

Used to go to bed at 11ish and sleep till 6-7. Now something seems to wake me up every hour, usually a trip to the loo, or cramp, or my blocked nose, or heart burn - great really! Yes we will be old pros by the time baby arrives - will be fully functioning sleepfree robots!!!! Have a good evening- and a restfull week (if you can!) Helenx

Yes blocked nose is bad - its so blocked that I snor - and wake myself and dh up!!

I'm collecting up pregnancy syptoms - yesterday I found out I'm anaemic too! so now I'm off for a glass of milk (for my heart burn and cramp) and some dried apricots for the anaemia!!!

Can't wait to get piles and back ache - I'm sure they must be next!!!!!! Helenxx
