Hi everyone, im just wondering if someone can reassure me about the fact that i have yet to put on any weight. I am 15 + 5 weeks and still weigh 9st 2lb. I have always had a problem with putting on weight over the years despite eating absolutely masses of food. Im not one of those that thinks they eat a lot but really hardly touches anything, i seriously eat more than most blokes. My docs have asked me to have extra appointments so they can monitor my weight as well. Am i fretting over nothing or should i be worried. I would appreciate any advice anyone can give. Thanks.
Oh yeah i should prob mention that im 5ft 11" tall as well. Thanks ladies. x

I gained no weight in both my pregnancies until about 25 weeks, and even then only gained a stone by the end. As long as your doc knows, it shouldn't be an issue.

Hi, don't worry too much, the baby will take what it needs. I was noted as officially underweight (about 9st 5)in my first pregnancy and only just managed to get into the bmi of 18 category the second time round by having two lunches before my 12 wk appt (no kidding!). I also find it really hard to put on weight, also 5ft 11 tall . Your bump will probably be solid baby like mine with no extra weight and if you are like me you may just end up really disappearing after you've had the baby! (Got some VERY jealous comments when I wore normal clothes with a tighter belt a few days after giving birth). I'm nearly 36 wks with my second baby and have so far put on less than a stone. Same with dd1 and she was born two weeks early at 7lbs- so perfectly average.
Having said that, 9st 2 is pretty light for your height, so extra monitoring is probably not a bad idea - for your own health (as I said, babies take what they need). I'm sure you'll be just fine...

mumandlovingit · 10/01/2010 20:08

i'm 19 weeks tomorrow and i lost 5lb during the first 12 weeks and have only just managed to put 2lb of it back on. i wasn't sick, just felt sicky. midwife is monitoring the size of the baby at each appointment like they normally do but other than that said not to worry as long as the baby is growing fine. at your 16 week appointment ask the midwife to check how high your uterus is. mine measured 16cm at 16wks so she said baby is growing fine, im just not putting weight on.

i wouldnt worry too much, my friend only put on around 8-9lb throughout the whole of her pregnancy and she had a 6lb healthy baby.

last pregnancy i put on nearly 5 stone, no kidding. thats why it seems so weird this time for me but as long as the baby is reaching the correct size i wouldnt worry yourself.

good luck with the pregnancy

I wouldn't worry, as long as you're eating enough and the baby is growing as it should. Weight gain varies enormously, and some people put on more at the start, some nearer the end, and others steadily throughout. You may catch up, or you may not. I didn't put on any weight in the first trimester. Am now 32 weeks and have put on nearly 2 stone! I was quite fit pre-pregnancy, so my metabolism was probably quite high to begin with, plus I lost some muscle which offset the weight I actually was gaining, IYSWIM. As you're quite tall and used to eating a fair bit, your metabolism may be higher too.
There's no harm in the doctors keeping an eye on you, but I don't think your weight alone is reason enough to worry.

GlastonburyGoddess · 10/01/2010 21:49

I wouldnt worry at all tbh.
Im 14 weeks(with#3)and weighed myself this evening fully expecting to be 1/2st heavier than at booking, Ive actually lost half a st, im soo shocked. but dont worry, especially if its your first baby. my sil was v fit and had put on no weight and was not showing till about 27 weeks

rattigan · 11/01/2010 10:23

Hiya, i really dont think you need to worry. I am 27 weeks and thought i had put on about half a stone but my midwife weighed me last week and i have only put on just under 3 pounds so far! I also have always eaten like a pig but always remained the same size. She said i will probably put on more weight in this last few months but that its nothing to worry about. She basically said a lot of women gain lots of weight purely from overeating during pregnancy as they see it as a way to eat whatever they want without feeling guilty (i disagree with this, by the way!). She also said to see it as a good thing...the less weight you gain, the less you need to lose to get back to pre-pregnancy size!

twogirls1more · 11/01/2010 11:15

Hi, I'm very surprised that your midwife seems concerned as it's very common and nothing to worry about, plus they don't even weigh you after your 1st appointment so am wondering why they're taking it so seriously!
I'm 30wks and lost a couple of lbs in 1st few weeks then settled back at my pre pregnancy weight and stayed there until around 18wks! I've not eaten for England at any point during my pregnancy, just 3 healthy, balanced meals a day and now, at this point, I've gained a stone and 4lbs.
I'm similar height to you by the way.
Think it depends often on your pre pregnancy weight and if you had some excess weight on you before you start when it comes to weight increase and progression during pregnancy.
Good luck!

LoveBeingAMummy · 11/01/2010 11:17

I didn't put anything on either and was looked at like a loony when asked if it was a problem!

Unless you are very underweight i don't see why it should be a prbem. You should ask you gp why they are concerned.

LuckyC · 11/01/2010 12:07

God, you're all so lucky waddles off into sunset

OrangeAnge · 11/01/2010 14:40

I wouldn't worry at all. I am 5'10" and weighed just under 9.5 stone before. I am 40 weeks preganant now and weigh just over 10 stone. I have never been weighed by midwives during my preganacy, and this has stopped me from worrying too.

Your baby will take what it needs from your diet and you will know whether to eat more if you need to. I was ravenous for the first 4 months but had bad sickness, but then I had my normal appetite back. I didn't watch what I ate but then I didn';t pig out either.

Think yourself lucky!

dizzygirl25 · 11/01/2010 20:22

Thank you all very much!!!! Im feeling much more reassured now. Its always nice to know what other people have gone through. I will continue eating everything within my eyeline and prob still won t gain much, but hey i might as well enjoy it! Good luck to you all and thanks again
