Slight fresh bleed at 37 weeks

Well, I'll be 37 weeks tomorrow. I had a small amount (and I mean miniscule, it was a miracle I noticed it) of red fresh blood this morning. Had lots of general discharge the previous couple of days but hadn't thought much of it.

Could this be the start of things do you think or am I clutching at straws?

I can feel the baby wriggling around quite happily so I'm not worried - just want to know whether to get excited or not!

Hello wasabipeanut, I don't know if you remember me from the '4 weeks and bricking it' thread? I am at 38 weeks now. Three weeks ago I noticed a small amount of blood and decided to pay a visit to the hospital. They checked me out and found absolutely no trace of blood in the cervix. I think it either came from a case of piles (ahem, cough, cough) or from the onset of thrush which had made my private parts sensitive. (Don't you just love this pregnancy lark?)

Of course you may be having a show, in which case I would say 'How bloody exciting!!!!)

I remember the night I gave birth to my DS 6 years ago I started bleeding like a period, I suppose. The midwives asked me to come into hospital immediately. I was 40 weeks though.

Hey Jardins of course I remember you. How are you doing???

So glam this late pregnancy lark isn't it? I would go to the hospital but its bloody miles away and the weather is still so grim. If there was more blood I'd be more concerned but we're talking less than a half a teaspoon here. It's stopped now in any case.

I got alll excited for a bit and thought this was it. I've had loads of Braxton Hicks and period pain type grumbles but nothing that actually got interesting - just tails off and there's no consistency of pattern.

i was 37 + 1 on new years eve and had exactly the same when i went to loo in the morning! 17 hrs later i gave birth to my daughter . it could just be a show which i thought mine was until the contractions started. Do you have any lower back pain at the mo??? how exciting!

Nomorebooze, oooooh you have got my hopes up now! I have a bit of a sore back but I think it's higher up than it would be if it was a more laboury type pain I think.

Well, my bag is packed and we are as organised as we can be so I guess I just have to wait and see! I was induced with my DS so have no idea how my body will start a sponaneous labour. You will prob see lots of these threads from me in the next week or two!

wasabi, is this your first? I cannot remember: shame on me!!! If you are pretty sure the blood is not coming from another orifice it might still be a good idea to call your midwife/hospital. I don't know about you but I always sigh inwardly when somebody gives me that very advice as I mostly cannot be bothered. I certainly wouldn't be WORRIED about if I were you; rather very excited. Oh and another reason I waddled off to hospital 3 weeks ago with the everso slight bleed (apart from the fact my DH wanted to check out the parking situation for D-Day) was because I am Rhesus negative so any vaginal bleeding needs to be checked out. What's your blood group? Hee hee, I don't get to ask that question often

Don't those early weeks seem light years ago to you? We've come a long way although I never really stopped knicker checking, not REALLY. I am feeling generally pretty positive despite horrible piles and thrush and bleeding gums. Maybe because I know this is my last pregnancy. I suddenly realised today that very soon I will be able to buy normal clothes (although with the breast feeding my boobs will be horribly huge) and it just dawned on me that pregnancy was almost over. I'm getting nervous about imminent birth though.

What about you? How have you been?

Oh Jardins that is a very good point - I am O negative. I should have thought about that, I'll ring the midwife in a minute. Good ob I posted wasn't it? This is my second btw, but please see previous post re induced 1st labour. I had none of this going on 1st time round.

We've come a long way baby! I have never really stopped knicker checking either. I haven;t had piles or thrush bt have a lovely varicose ven somewhere very delicate indeed which I am assured will disappear after the birth! Nice! The oregnancy has been fine and uncomplicated thank heavens up until a few weeks ago when I just got so huge and uncomfy it was no fun anymore. We've moved house and everything since we last spoke!

I was nervous about the birth (am having a go at a VBAC) but fear now outweighed by desperate to have baby outside of my body. Are you still in France?

Slightly more watery than usual but I had my waters leak last time round, hence the induction, and it wasn't like that. No smell or anything.

Yep, am still in France where everything is highly medicalised but I feel in very good hands. You're ever so good. My hospital bag is not ready yet.

I had the same at 37 weeks with my last pregnancy (third child). I went in to get checked and was offered an induction, which I refused. Ended up staying pregnant for another 5 weeks and had to have the induction anyway! Hopefully this is the start of things happening!

hello wasabi and jardins hope you guys remember me from the 4 weeks thread? I'm 37.5 weeks! I can only echo your thoughts on the continued knicker checking, I still worry and am thrilled at every movement I feel. I am very excited that this long long journey is almost at an end and we will be meeting our baby soon.

I am in a similar situation to wasabi as in I was induced first time round for low amniotic fluid (although I didn't end up with c-section) so am waiting for any signs as well. I have had increased discharge as well, but no other pre-labour symptoms not even braxton hicks!

Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say hi! I am looking forward to hearing any news of baby arrivals!

Hi there Happy bump - fab to hear we are all nearing the finish line! Well I rang the hospital as instructed by midwife and told me not to bother coming in unless I see anymore blood or big fluid loss neither of which has happened. Suits me.

Needless to say, no contractions or anything other than really uncomfy braxton hicks type tightenings. It ain't happening for me yet.

Yippee, this feels like a sort of 'old school reunion': all we need now is Thandeka and a few others to compare stories with. How shall we let each other know about our respective births? How are you HappyBump? How do you feel about the whole giving birth thing?

ps btw Wasabi, where do you live? I'm aware that you live in the SE: it's just that I hail from Tunbridge Wells (ho hum) and I'm being nosey!!!

Hurrah! we are all together again to cross the finish line (fingers crossed)! I "saw" Thandeka on another thread titled "grump cafe", she seems to be doing well too.

jardins I am feeling remarkably relaxed about giving birth at the moment, perhaps it is because I know actually the labour/birth thing is a breeze (ha ha) relative to the first few months with a newborn! However, I am sure as it all draws nearer I will start to panic. I packed my hospital bag yesterday and the bag for the baby, my DH is a little bit more anxious and wants me to be prepared ... can't blame him for that really! How about you? am sure it will be a walk in the park given that this is your third isn't it? I am quite curious to know what it will feel like to go into labour naturally rather than being induced.

I too had a very very tiny amount of blood the other day but I am suffering from piles (great) and put it down to that. Not had it since and no sign of the baby.

Im 38 weeks on Friday and have a horrible feeling Im going to go over due this time - Dd was 39+5.

Bloody 2nd babies are a nightmare to get out!

Jardins I'm in Newbury. We used to live in Reading but moved here because the primary schools are better and we couldn't afford the sort of house we wanted in Reading. Newbury is only down the road but it makes a big difference.

Yes I hear birth in France is a very medical thing. I guess you take from the system what you want. I read a piece by Janine di Giovani a while ago about the, ahem, exercise kit you are prescribed by the French system after the birth. Made me chuckle

On the subject of birth announcments, isn't there a specific topic we can all annouce on?
If not we can post in Childbirth - I'm sure we'll all find eachother!
