I'm doing steam inhalations - however is there anything else I can do/ take? I suspect not and it's going to mean a course of ABs .

You can take some paracetamol and the NHS website recommends using "the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time". If it doesn't clear up though, do see your GP who can recommend something else. You have my sympathies - I currently have a sore throat/ears/blocked nose and it's not fun . Look after yourself and hope you feel better soon.

Stay warm, plenty of rest, olbas oil, paracetamol for pain, keep steaming

you may well need abs to shift it

steer clear of over-the-counter medications that mask the symptoms but don't make you better

if still at work stay home 'til better

I was prescribed the amoxicillian (sp?) which got rid of the worst of the symptoms but I have continued to have bouts of it throughout the pregnancy. I have accepted that it isn't going to go until I have had the baby.

Oh well only another 3 months of not being able to breathe and coughing up bucketloads of phlegm.

It's crap isn't it TDH ?

Thanks everyone for the advice/ sympathy. The snow has now drifted making the track to our house impassable - so no trips to the docs for me unless the farmer comes and clears it for us. I can't wait for the BIG thaw to arrive.

I had a terrible bout before Christmas and was also prescribed amoxicillan. I tried not to take it and hold out, but was in so much pain. Symptoms started to go after 48 hours and was just left with the cold after a week. Hope you can either get out to the drs soon or you start to feel better. Lots of sympathy to you!

Try steaming yourself over a bowl of water with olbas oil or Vicks. When out of snow (poor you!!) get a NEti Pot- they are the best.

I have also started a humidifier in my room which makes a huge diff.

bigpreggybelly · 10/01/2010 14:55

Saline nasal spray - any chemist will have it. Good for general nose unblocking.

saltyseadog · 10/01/2010 15:00

Thanks everyone. I'd completely forgotten that we have a steam humidifier (used to use it for dd as she used to get terrible chest infections). Will go and see if I can dig it out .

My obstetrician has now problem with me using Sinex. Invaluable at night when I would be climbing the walls with frustration otherwise.

I had sinusitis in November and it wasn't until I took the amoxicillin that it shifted. Steaming helped a bit, so did saline spray and breathe right strips across the nose but paracetemol wasn't touching the pain. It was less than 48 hours after starting the amoxicillin that I noticed a difference. It is miserable anytime but especially when pregnant

plenty of steam..and also press a hot flannel across your sinusus and massage the sinus areas, concentrate on the points on either side of the nose, cheekbones and above the eyes......you may end up needing anti biotics
