Am only 4 weeks and a few days pregnant (found out a couple of days ago), and had some bright red bleeding in the early hours of this morning.

Have had a tiny bit more, but have only just started moving around for the day, so would imagine that things will start happening now if they're going to.

However, on the off chance I don't miscarry in an obvious manner, can the doctor's do anything if I call them? I'm kind of thinking that if it doesn't go wrong I'd like a scan in a week or two (when there will be something to measure), or blood tests next week or something, but will they do that at this early stage?

Basically, what do I do? Am very , but just want to know what's happening now, one way or the other.

I am so sorry to hear you are going through this. I dont really have much advice to give but didnt want to leave unanswered. I had bleeding at 6 and 9 wks and got scans both times. It would do no harm to call your doc's and ask to speak a midwife. Explain the situation even if they cant scan you this early im sure they can help- maybe blood test? Then at least your on their books and ask for an early scan? You could be bleeding for any number of reasons. I hope all is ok and you get some answers. Hopefully someone a bit more knowledgeable will post soon.

Hi sorry to hear this.

Do you mean that you are two weeks since conception? How many days late is your period? If you are only a few days late there is little point being scanned now as there will be nothing to see.

I personally (and I speak from experience) would not bother going to the Drs. IMO the best thing to do is if there is no more bleeding see the Dr at 6 weeks explain you had small bleed and ask to be scanned.

If you bleed heavily wait a couple of days and then do a HPT to which will confirm whether you are still pregnant (hormone levels drop very quickly with very early mc so a hpt would be accurate)

Hope it works out

I am so sorry to hear this. In my experience they will do very little this early on. I think its a case of wait and see what happens today. It may turn into a 'period' and would be classed as a chemical pregnancy / very early miscarriage and they cannot do anything. The bleeding might stop in which case I would probably then go and see the doctor and see what is going on.

I had a chemical pregnancy the month before this. I had a positive on the wednesday and started my period on the saturday. I did another pregnancy test when my period was over and it was negative. I didnt call the doctor or anything.

A lot of pregnancies are lost very early on. If we didnt have such good home pregnancy tests we would never know about them and just have a 'late' period. I know this doesnt help you but it is unfortunately quite common.

Let us know what happens

Thank you - as I suspected, not a lot to do but wait and see. Really if I MC'd now it would be more a case of chemical pregnancy that MC anyway.

Will do as you advice NancyDrew and call doc in a week or two after doing another test, and see where things are then.

So frustrating not knowing one way or the other!

really sorry and know what a stressful situation you're in. To be honest, if your period is only a few days late then you've probably had a chemical pregnancy (means that the embryo didn't implant in the womb) and the bleeding is actually your period and not a miscarriage. If it's any consolation, the same thing happened to me and I was pregnant a month later (now 32 weeks). X

Hi, so sorry to hear this. I had a similar experience which for me turned out to be a chemical preg, got positive test on day period due, then a week later period started.

I must say though when my period came it was heavy straight away, took another test and it was negative. You could just be having implantation bleeding if its just a bit, early bleeds are common a friend of mine had a proper period and was still pregant a week later!

Anyway, I did go and see the doctor that day who was very understanding although she said there was nothing they could do for me. She said give it a week and do another test if its positive go back and see her. She did say though that as upsetting as it is it is a good sign as my eggs were present and correct, his sperm working, egg fertilised ok, my tubes clear etc. She also said if it is still negative that we could start trying again straight away.

We did start trying again and I was pregnant within 2 months, Im now 32 weeks.

Ive got my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks for your concern everyone, it's really lovely.

Finally copped out and phoned doc this afternoon after spotting all day but not getting heavier, and he was really sympathetic, chatted it through, and booked me in for a scan with EPU on Tuesday.

Spotting is getting fractionally heavier and more painful now though, so suspect I won't need to wait till then to find out what's happening.

Am surprisingly calm, but that's mainly because there's still a glimmer of hope, suspect I'll be a bit of a state if/when it gets heavier and is 'official' iykwim.
