Baby's hiccup

How often do you feel your baby having a hiccup?
I can feel it at least 3-4 times a days, and always when I'm trying to fall asleep. Do you think it's normal or should I mention it to my MW?

Also I keep having this pain in very top left side of my bump and it's not the baby pushing as he/she is somewhere else and I do't think it's the ribs.... Any thoughts?

Both mine hiccuped all the bleeding time and it drove me up the wall. It was lovely to know they were ok in there but even after they had been born I got phantom hiccups as I was so used to it. You can mention it to your midwife but I'm sure it's ok.

Not sure about the pain. But it might be an arm of leg poking you? Again, your midwife should be able to check the position and check.

My dd had lots and lots and carried right on after being born. My bump now has only had a few, so I think it depends on the baby. Pretty sure it's normal and they just practice for breathing .

Mine hiccups several times a day, too, Petrushka. My MW says it's completely normal.

When expecting DS I used to travel to work by car. Every evening he hiccupped away while I sat in various traffic jams. He got them at other times as well but the evening session seemed very regular. When he was born he had them daily for a long time. They never seemed to bother him and he finally grew out of them.

Thank you all for your replies!

Of course no hiccup as yet today, plenty of movement though. It's always like this isn't it?

What do hiccups feel like? How are they different to other movement - I feel lots of different kinds of movement and am not sure what is what?!

Hi purpledee, you'll know when your baby has a hiccough. It's regular little 'jumps' and feels quite funny (unless the baby is fully engaged, in which case it's just plain weird!)

SmilerJane · 09/01/2010 15:41

my DS had loads of hiccups when i was preg with him n trust me you know when they are... tiny lil jumps.. kinda feels like twitches inside.... the funniest feelin ever ..
other movements feel just like the shifting but totally different
as far as ur pain could just be your womb increasing insize as baby will be gettin bigger much faster now.. if it hurts alot see your mw hun..
i remember when my DS kicked once his foot came right out and i saw the shape n had to hold his foot in because it felt like he was goin to pop out of my tummy ouch but so cute .
