What the hell is baby bunting for?

Does anyone know what you are supposed to do with baby bunting? I keep seeing it in baby catalogues - is it to wrap round a cot or decorate the wall? Or just to hang out the window to greet the new baby? I haven't the foggiest.

We I read the title I thought this was an academic discussion of Each Peach Pear Plum. Sadly not. I am disappointed.

I always thought a baby bunting was a bit like a cross between a babygro and a grobag, with a drawstring bottom usually. Basically what they used to use before grobags were invented, but they went out of fashion for a bit.

Do you mean bunting with "baby boy/baby girl" on though? I don't think I have ever noticed that.
