I have bought some non-bio washing liquid to wash the baby clothes before he puts in an appearance and I also bought some comfort gentle fabric softener supposedly for babies, is it ok to use this fabric softener for a newborn?

Yes that's what I used with no problems at all. I only used non-bio and Comfort Pure until my son was about a year old, and then I went back bio stuff.

you don't need to use conditioner at all though, its safer not to as babies can have all sorts of skin problems!

i wash DS's clothes in ecover, no conditioner, they turn out fine not too crunchy or anything

BellaBalloon · 06/01/2010 19:12

Why do people wash their clothes first? is this just le fashion now or will they get a rash otherwise?

gizzy1973 · 06/01/2010 19:19

its best to wash clothes as no telling who has handled them first and what dressings are in them

i dont use softner either as everything has been washed with eco balls although did wash the cardigans with softner as too hard and cant put in dryer to soften but they wont be next to skin anyway

I wash everything as it's part of my nesting ritual. Plus we moved house a few months ago and DS's baby stuff was up in the loft and smelt a little stale. Even those vacumn bags can't prevent that.

I even ironed the little baby vests. I know, I am insane with hormones.

I washed all of dd's baby pink newborn clothes and folded them neatly in anticipation of her arrival.

She was 10 pounds 7.

And ginger.

Couldn't take them back to the shop! There is a lesson to be learned there for everyone.

Lol Picante.

CrystalQueen · 06/01/2010 19:43

Someone at my work told me I should iron all the baby clothes to soften them. That lasted about 30 seconds after DD arrived!

I always washed anything new before putting it on any of my DCs -- there are lots of chemicals used in fabrics, factories and in transit.

Also, having had some redheads, you can dress little red-haired baby girls in pink .

I only washed 2nd hand stuff before for the reason that Picante said - new stuff i washed after the baby was born... mean they each had to come home from hospital in hand me downs (DD's from my niece) no fabric conditioner though, just used fairy non bio.

got a bit lazy about the washing though most important for vests which have the most skin contact.

I washed everything in Fairy Non-Bio and comfort pure till DD was about 1 intend to do the same with this DC. I like the smell that fabric softner gives clothes!
