I am 9 weeks with my fourth, I have been very very sick this time. I have not managed to keep much food OR drink down now for a week or two and I am starting to feel run down because of it.
I HAVE been able to keep lemonade and for some reason fish and chip shop chips down (which is odd because I normally dont like anything potatoey!). I have also eaten a stupid amount porridge. I keep trying to eat other foods but tbh even the though of most of them make me feel or be sick.

Is it better to just eat what I can (i.e chips, lemonade and porridge!) and keep something down OR keep trying with my healthier foods??

also I am stupidly worried about the lemonade evr since a friend told me it was really bad for the baby? is it? worse than not keeping drinks down??

Eat whatever you can - I lived on salt and vinegar hula hoops and doughnuts for 12 weeks when pg with my son! You just need to get through it as best you can.

I hope you feel better soon xx

And why is lemonade bad for the baby?? Even if it is then it's better to keep hydrated if you can.

You have to eat!

I was similar in early weeks - wild cravings for unsuitable stuff but it was that or be sick so, just go with it.

porridge is pretty healthy, esp if you can chuck in some dried fruit and use low fat milk

try expanding things gradually

take your vitamins

try fizzy water with lemon juice

I am back on the straight and narrow now and eating normally (though still chucking up dramatically in inconvenient places)

Many sympathies - it's rotten

I went through a phase of only wanting Birds Eye BBQ Chicken Griddlers, Mini Kievs & Heinz spaghetti when I was pg with DS. It doesn't seem to have done him any harm.

porridge is very healthy anyway and fish and chips - if they make you feel a bit better - sound OK too. Poor you! It sounds miserable. I hope you feel better soon. I think you being really run down and exhausted would be worse for the baby than eating a bit of junk. I would ignore your friend

SmacOnTheLipsUnderTheMistletoe · 06/01/2010 13:47

you need to keep hydrated so lemonade will do that and porridge is good for you - slow released carbohydrate so keep that up and chips, well they're not that bad Keep eating what you can manage as not eating at all is much worse.
Maybe try a pregnancy multivit as well? Not necessary if you are having a well balanced diet but in your case might help a bit.

thanks I will carry on eating as I am . I have no idea why lemonade is so awful but the way she said it made it sounds as though she knew some terrible secret that I didnt!. I have been a little over sensitive lately, I blame pregnancy

The lemonade thing might be to do with artificial sweeteners which some people are cuatious about. But I don't think there is any known risk associated with them. If you wanted to avoid them 7up is made with just sugar, and I think most of the cloudy lemonades are made with only sugar. But it really isn't something you should be worrying about.
