I came off the pill in August. It took about 6 weeks for my first period to come through, and then the 2 after were like clockwork, however i am about 11 days late for my next one. I did a test 5 days ago and neg, but have broken out in spots, bad cramping. My partner are withdrawing so i dont see how it is possible? or can my cycle still not be right after coming off the pill? very confused!!

Hi, Your cycle should come back more or less as soon as you come off the pill esp if you have 2 normal periods but it will only come back to what it was like before you were on the pill. If it was erratic before it might still be now.

I would repeat the preg test. I have had a fairly reg 28 day cycle since stopping pill in June. My last period was mid NOV. Had loads of stress at end of that month and period didnt start. Had had v little sex either owing to stress and husband not being well so didnt expect to be pregnant. I did a preg test when i was 2 days late and it was negative. Had loads of pain and thought it was period starting- still no show. Did another 2 tests still negative. Even spoke to GP. She suggested another test 1 week later. Had cramps on and off like before periods then boobs suddenly went v tender and big. Did preg test- weak positive. Repeated- definitely pregnant. Would repeat test now..... good luck

Ok....congrats to you though.

Very exciting. My conscience is saying no. i will do another test tomorrow, but feel like i am going to come on any day now.

Either way would just like the cramping to stop because it is unbearable.......arggghhhh!!!

before i knew i felt like i was about to come on, i think its a symptom

PinkiePoo · 03/01/2010 17:04

Early pregnancy feels very similar to the way you feel when your period is about to start.

Do you mean that you were using withdrawal as a method of contraception? It's generally not that reliable as sperm leak out before ejaculation so you can get pg even if he withdraws in time.

Do another test tomorrow if your period still isn't here.

I'm not sure if you do or don't want to be pg.

PinkiePoo · 03/01/2010 17:13

either or.....would love to be a mummy but i am only 26 so no hurry.

Yes i am no longer on the pill and my partner just withdrawals. I would be very surprised if i was. my gut instnict says no.

will do test tomorrow.

Hi PinkiePoo - when I came off the pill my cycles were totally messed up - before I took it they were quite regular but closer to 5 weeks, turned out I had PCOS, although needed internal scan to diagnose. Like you I had 2 normal cycles before they got longer.

If your period hasn't come within another couple of weeks then go to GP to discuss.

And yes, can get pregnant using withdrawal - its only around 80% effective so if 100 women used it for a year 20 of them would get pregnant.

PinkiePoo · 03/01/2010 17:33

Yeah its weird because for the past 3 weeks i have felt like i am going to come on. Really bad cramps on and off.
Had it a week before i was due, which is normal and ever since.
I am sure there is a perfect explanation, sorry to hear about your PCOS though MumNWLondon........

I am sure i am fine......knowing my luck, will buy the test tomorrow morn and come on after i take it. :-)

I came off the pill in December after being on it for ages - the best part of 20 years. Everything was fine for a month or so, then I had crazy periods - 2 weeks apart, and for longer than usual. Very unpredicatable. I went to the GP to speak about it, and she said that the body sort of runs on the schedule that the oral contraceptive set, and it takes a while for your own hormones to achieve a regular cycle. She must have known something, because I became pregnant in the middle of April! So that was about 4 months, and you're about 4 months along too.

We were trying for a child, and I had a negative test in March, and a negative one in early April, so I just waited until I missed a period... tried the test then, positive in May! Visited the GP again, and she said I was about 6 weeks along. Are you trying for a pregnancy?

PinkiePoo · 03/01/2010 17:47

No not trying but if it happens, it happens and i will be happy.

so you think it is just my cycle then JoInScotland?

I came off the pill after being on it for about 5 years, and it took 6 months for my periods to come back at all. Then I had one period, and nothing the next month. Took a pg test as was going on a hen weekend and didn't want to be drinking if I sas pg, but it was negative. Next month, had premenstrual symptoms but didn't get my period, so took a test and got BFP! Some people are more sensitive to the hormones in the pill, I don't think it's that uncommon for your cycle to be 'messed up' for a while afterward.

BusyMissIzzy · 03/01/2010 18:24

But best of luck with however it turns out

PinkiePoo · 03/01/2010 20:26

miss izzy i think your right.

i think cycle maybe to blame!!

Grrrrr....wish it would make its mind up, i'm uncomfortable :-(

PinkiePoo - getting a diagnosis was actually very good - I changed my diet & had some acupuncture and got pregnant very quickly (within weeks of the diagnosis) - I think it was a very mild case (hence normal cycles before the pill) - the pill was just enough to upset the balance. I suspect that without the diagnosis it would have evenutally corrected itself over time.

As someone else said the pill can just mess up your hormones for a bit, and I guess I was slightly more susceptible because of the condition.

If you have more long cycles probably best to go to GP to disucss.

JoInScotland · 05/01/2010 17:13

pinkie poo I think your cycle will take time to settle down. The women in my family are all famously fertile, and I thought it would take a while to get "regular cycles" and never expected to get pregnant in April! Not the greatest timing because I was born just before Christmas, and am due January 12th ... spent all of the Christmas period worried that the baby would come early.... will be more careful about timing next time.....
