Light bleeding in early pregnancy

Hi, just discovered your website seems fantastic sorce of information and support, so wondered whether anyone out there could reassure me. I am 9 weeks pg with my 5th child,(three older sons and 2 and hlf year old son)and am 38years old. At about 6 weeks had light bleeding like at end of period, was sent for scan where i was reassured that was pg and there was a heartbeat. since then in the each week i have had at least one day when there is very light show of blood only noticeably when wipe myself.I am really worried about this as never had anything like this with other pregnancies! However, with son no.4 did have to have emergency caesarian because of fetal distress and suddenly starting to bleed in labour, wondered if this could have anything to do with it? Any ideas or similar experiences

No ideas sorry. But i know what you are going through. I am also 7 weeks PG and on saturday night just gone i went to the toilet as normal but found blood in my knickers. I rang my mid-wife and she booked me in for a scan. I have had my scan and they said that every thing was absolutly fine. I feel quite emotional though. Don't feel stressed though because i think that is what started mine in the first place.

Bleeding in early pregnancy is very common and often a reason for it is never found. I know that is not very reassuring but you may find it will go on until 12-16 week mark. It could be remnants of blood from the initial bleed being passed. I do not think it has to do with your C/S koonelly. Let your GP and midwife know of the bleeding at your neat visit. Obviously see them sooner if you bleed more heavily of have any pain. Hopefully it will resolve soon.

next visit not neat.

im 11 weeks pregnant and have been to hospital over bleeding twice this time so i know how your feeling, the first time it was only spotting but last week i bled very heavily.dont worry too much after last weeks bleed i was convinced i'd lost it but no babys still hanging on in there!thing that gets me is you spend hours up the hospital worrying about it just for them tom tell you everythings ok(what you want to hear)but no reason, last time we actually made a point of asking why it had happened but never actually got an answer.
could be your cervix hasnt closed right up ,dont think it would be due to csection.did they check your ovaries etc on your scans youve had .they said theyd check mine to see if it could be that making me bleed.
sorry cant be of much help

I bled with my last pregancy at 6 weeks and then again at 12 wks. The cause was said to be erosion of the cervix. I went on to have a healthy baby and my cervical smear later was fine. It is a very worrying time but if the scan was OK you should be fine. Number 5 wow - that must be hard work!!

Thanks, its reasurring to know this can happen and everything is still normal, guess i'm worrying cos i'm bit older now and more aware about the things that can go wrong! I'll ask midwife when i book in about cervical erosion as a possible cause, i'm sure that after 3 natural births got to be a bit of wear and tear there!!Also was never told why i started bleeding in 4th labour, (wasn't placenta previa)so will ask about that.

and yep grommit is hard work but having older boys, they're 11/12/14, means apart from the teenage angst and sulks, I do get a help and support with stroppy toddler!! Not sure how they will cope with another one though!

I am 7wks preg I have had light bleeding for about five days only when i go to the loo.I had an early scan yes they told me there was nothing inside the sac does this mean i have mc

HandbagAddiction · 10/01/2006 17:51

malteeser - so sorry to hear about this and also that no-one has responded so far. At 7 weeks, if there is nothing in the sac, then I fear you may well have miscarried and I'm very sorry.

Clearly I'm not qualified and only going on experience here as I had a scan at 7 weeks and they were able to see a heartbeat and fetus. However, from what other people have said I suspect that I could be right.

In some way, I hope I'm not and someone else on here will come and correct me.

But - have they given you any more information, asked you to go back, checked for HCG levels? Are you also in pain as well as having had the bleeding?

malteeser · 10/01/2006 22:53

To HandbagAddiction

Thankyou for replying to my message.I have to go and get my Hcg levels checked tomorrow.I have had no pain and the bleeding had stopped ,so I am trying to be optimistic.

i have a 7 month old dd3 and we were trying to concieve , when i thought that i had started my period. i was at a friends house and just went toilet sorted myself out and carried on , by the next day i hadnt been bleeding so took my self to my doc app that was already booked as i had suspicons that i had concieved. i went and i was pregnant. i was told that i just had a embedding bleed , its just where the embryo implants . i hope this helps and you all have positive results.
malteeser- i am also fearful that you may well of miscarried . my friend had no bleeding but went for scan to find out that they had lost there baby at 6 weeks and thought they were 10 weeks . my best wishes go to you and i hope things turn out positive !!
