mines went 8lb, then no.2 was 8lb 13oz ,no.3 came back doqwn a bit to 8lb 4oz

AnotherHelen · 30/06/2005 15:00

Its debatable this one i think, my first was 10lb and my second was 7lb 12oz! i think as a general rule though they do get bigger! my sisters first was 6lb 15oz and she just had her second 3 weeks early and she weighed 8lb 4 oz! i wonder why they get bigger though?? xxx

jessicasmummy · 30/06/2005 15:01

AH.... dont tell me that.... Jess was 6lb 6oz and i was looking forward to another SMALL baby!!!

AnotherHelen · 30/06/2005 15:42

LibbyandBensMummy · 30/06/2005 16:10

my first dd was 6lb 10oz and my second ds was 8lb both born two weeks early im dreadin going full term with this one number three. help me !!!

geogteach · 30/06/2005 16:12

No 3rd was smallest, but still over 8lbs!

zubb · 30/06/2005 16:14

thats reassuring goegteach as ds1 was 8lb 15oz (a couple of days early) and ds2 was 9lb 9oz (8 days late), and with ds3 due in 10 weeks I was preparing for a 10lb+ one!

cupcakes · 30/06/2005 16:14

I was wondering just the other day why they tend to get bigger. My first was 6lb5oz and my second was 8lb10oz so I'm a little nervous about getting pregnant for a third time!
Do you think it might just be that the mum is (generally) a little bit (ahem) bigger with each pregnancy and that affects it?
Or could it be linked to the mother's increasing age?

starlover · 30/06/2005 16:15

someone i know had

7lb 8
8lb 13
10lb 3
10lb 2
7lb 13
and finally a 9lb 3

so... it varies!

Not ime! My first two were 8.8lbs but my third was 7.5lb and fourth was just 7lb.

Aero · 30/06/2005 16:21

Mine have gone totally against the grain!! Ds1 was 8lb 10oz, dd was 8lb 4oz and ds2 was a midget at 7lb 10oz - he just looked tiny in comparrison to the others!!
Also, ds1 was 5 days overdue, dd was 2 days early and ds2 was 9 days early, so maybe the stress of already being a mummy brought on earlier deliveries each time and they just weren't in there as long so didn't get as big. Does that make sense?

wordgirl · 30/06/2005 16:22

DS1 7lb 8oz
DS2 7lb 13oz
DS3 7lb 10oz
Consistent or what!

Kidstrack2 · 30/06/2005 16:28

My first was 9lb 2oz second was 7lb 10oz
My mum had 6 of us and we all varied from smallest which was me at 6lb 11oz to 8lb 7oz but not in any particular order.

QueenEagle · 30/06/2005 16:30

No not necessarily hawksley!

dd 7lb 4oz
ds1 9lb 14oz
ds2 8lb 4oz
ds3 9lb 4oz
ds4 9lb 1oz

tabitha · 30/06/2005 16:42

My first one was the biggest (8lb 13oz) although they've not varied that much in weight - smallest of the four was 8lb 7 1/2 oz.

hawksley · 30/06/2005 16:51

well it certainly doen?t sound like it?s a given that this one will be supersized (although does feel very packed in, and at my last midwife appointment they quite flippantly said ?mmm, I think pretty big). I?ve got another scan in acouple of weeks (36 weeks) to see after ds1, but someone told me there?s a 20% variation either way. Would rather not be induced, but equally, would prefer not to get another 10lber out!

hawksley, I was worried about having another 10lber so when ds4 looked on course for about 11lb, my consultant agreed to induce me 2 weeks early. He was still 9lb 1oz then so if I had gone to term or over he would easily have been that, so I felt quite justified in asking for an induction.

Could you ask to speak to the consultnat at the hospital if you are really that worried?

ds 8lb 2
dd 7lb 13
ds2 7lb 11
ds3 10lb 2
ds4 9lb 15

cant see a pattern!!!!!

emmatmg · 30/06/2005 18:23

Ds1 7lb 11oz
Ds2 8lb 5oz
Ds3 8lb 3oz BUT I'm sure he wasn't that small as he looked so much bigger than ds2 did as a baby (we checked in photos too), They were both homebirths and were weighed in those little hammock scale thingys so I imagine it's easy to get a wrong reading just because of wear and tear on the scales over time.
