Okkkk.. firstly, happy new year everyone!
Anyway! Im just over 25 weeks and have only gained 6 pounds so far despite being very obviously pregnant as i have a large bump! I have no idea how much is a normal weight to have gained so far but i was expecting to weight more than this. Im 5'8 and at moment am at about 9 and half stone.
Is there any point that the midwife will start weighing me at my appointments? She only did it at my booking in and i havent mentioned the weight thing to her yet as im not sure if im worrying for no reason but have next app on Wed so wondering if i should ask her about it!

i gained at least 2 1/2 stone with both my pg! i dont think its anything to worry about though probably mostly baby, placenta and waters. Think yourself lucky

o and happy new year to you and bump

Morloth · 01/01/2010 13:57

There is no "normal". I haven't been weighed at all this pregnancy - is a pointless activity that will just cause worry so I skip it.

I didnt gain any weight at all in either due to hyperemesis and having a few pounds to lose anyway . I presume you are eating and not deliberately starving yourself? Taking a multivitamin if you cant eat? Baby will most likely be fine. You might also find that a lot of the growing and weight gain comes in the last trimester.

Mention it to her but I doubt its actually a problem. Sometimes mums start eating healthier in pregnancy and therefore gradually lose a bit of weight

I did not gain any in my pregnancy. I was the same weight when I delivered as when I started. I could see though that my arms and legs had thinned out though IYSWIM. I think I was actually eating a much healthier diet with no beer, cheese and naughty snacks etc than before I was pregnant so that was probably part of the reason with me.

I queried it with my midwife who assured me that it did not matter as the baby was obviously growing well and my sugars were normal.

Nothing to worry about at all. I'm avearge height, I was 8 stone pre-pregnancy, lost a few pounds throughout the first 16 weeks of sickness, had gone up to about 8 and a half stone by 24 weeks and am now 9 stone 4 at 32 weeks.

The midwife has never weighed me, although she did ask what my weight was at booking-in. I asked if I could jump on her scales at my last check as we don't have any at home.

She thinks the baby is bigger than average, I've been eating as healthily as I can all along so it's not an issue at all. Wasn't the best of eaters beforehand (lazy, picky, always ate on the go) but have made a conscious effort to sit and eat meals and snack on fruit, don't feel I can do much more.
I'd imagine cutting out wine, beer and fizzy mixers has kept it down too!

As long as you are eating a balanced diet I wouldn't worry. I started off a size 8 and wasn't even showing by 25 weeks. There's photos of me in a bikini on the beach at 20 weeks and you can't tell. I'm 35 weeks now and have gained about a stone, though I never stop eating - day and night!. Be prepared to ignore everyone's constant comments about your "small baby" - unless they are medically qualified in some way they don't get an opinion. Have a chat with your midwife at your next appointment I'm sure she'll reassure you.

I'm just over 25 weeks, obviously pregnant but only gained 7lb. It was the same when I had DS. Don't worry!

memorylapse · 01/01/2010 20:53

as far as I know mums to be are not routinely weighed anymore..I wasnt with my last two,but I am weighed this time round as Im diabetic..
however I have actually lost weight due to hyperemesis and a diabetic diet..but have a very sizable bump(am nearly 23 weeks)

CMOTdibbler · 01/01/2010 20:56

At 24 weeks I had gained 1kg - and had a big bump. I had felt so nauseous and stressed, that I hadn't overeaten. DS weighed 6lb 5oz at 35 weeks, so certainly wasn't small

maternal weight has very little to do with baby size, so they don't weigh you anymore
