Early bleed and RH neg

I'm 4+4 and just found blood when I wiped. Looked like a drop of red blood mixed in with CM - almost in strands IYSWIM. Don't know what implantation bleed should look like and assume is too late anyway.

I am terrified. Had bleeds with DS so know it can turn out well, but this looks different.

Know also that it's too early to scan and nothing can be done at this stage if going wrong. BUT am also RH neg and seem to remember am supposed to go to hospital if bleeding. Does this early count? Should I contact someone?

Yes phone the triage midwife at your hospital or out of hours GP. I am RH neg and was told to come on for anti- D of I had a bleed.

MumNWLondon · 01/01/2010 09:46

re: RH- Probably best to call midwife to check - I am also Rh- and seem to remember that not a worry with bleeds this early (because no fetal blood yet) but best to call be sure.

re: bleeding - hope it turns out to be nothing significant...

Just called my Early Pregnancy Unit and is closed till Monday, which is v fecking useful. Got nice nurse on another ward who said nothing they can do now and to call bac if gets worse.

I told her about the RHneg but she didn't seem concerned.

Don't know how I'm going to get through few days. Petrified of going to the toilet. Really hoped I wouldn't get that this time

Can you call NHS direct and see what they advise? Since the EPU is shut, another doctor should be able to help.

I am also RH Neg and was told that any sort of bleeding needs to be reported as anti d does need to be given.

Call NHS Direct/ your out of hours GP number.

HohohoBumperlicious · 01/01/2010 11:01

I don't remember being told to be specially worried about being RH-. However I am fairly sure that you should still be protected from the anti D you had last time.

Sorry you are bleeding though, thinking positive thoughts for you.

stillfrazzled · 01/01/2010 11:09

Thanks. Got appt with emergency GP in an hour, know they won't be able to do much but hopefully they can rule out infection, ectopic etc.

Sigh. Keep your fingers crossed for me, please...

Had my emergency appt. GP took blood pressure, felt stomach, told me all fine and bleeding not unusual which of course i knew anyway, and sent me away.

WASTE OF FaRKING TIME.

Need the loo and too scared to go.

Thought I'd be better this time round as had it with DS so know it can turn out well, also I HAVE DS so should be consolation.

And it isn't. This time it's worse because I know what I'd be missing out on. DH v sympathetic and lovely, but actually does feel that it'd be disappointing but at least we know we can get pg again, have DS aleady etc.

No-one else knows and I feel v alone at the moment.

Feel for you, really do. At least you got checked out. All I can advise is rest up as much as poss and try not to stress too much.

As you yourself have said; this happened before to you and you now have your DS. Focus on the positives.

stillfrazzled · 01/01/2010 19:37

Have been trying. Spent afternoon on sofa, DH has washed up, done laundry, cooked and is now putting DS to bed. I have MNed and drunk tea

In four visits to loo, two (inc last one) have been faintest possible pink stain rather than blood. So could be worse.

OTOH am feeling quite crampy - but (a) I did a bit before, seems to be a feature of my pregnancies, and (b)it's worse when I'm thinking about it!

I HATE this. If I don't obviously miscarry it's going to be two weeks until I can get a definite answer. Gaaaah.

Turns out it was real cramps. More blood when I checked just now (looks old-ish, mixed in with mucus of some kind) and now has made it into my pants too.

Sorry to keep posting, not being attention-seeker but can't think of anything else.

HohohoBumperlicious · 01/01/2010 22:41

Oh , not much you can do really, but keep resting and do whatever you can to make yourself feel better.

mistletoekisses · 02/01/2010 07:22

Dont apologise for posting again. How are you this morning?

stillfrazzled · 02/01/2010 12:38

Started day finding quite a bit of blood (enough to have made it onto pad), some cramps, almost no sleep due to ill DS and several sobbing fits.

Since then have had two almost-nothing wipes, one with blood but I THINK it looks a little older. Still some cramping but don't know if it's as bad.

Hospital says may not actually be miscarriage unless I start bleeding majorly and passing clots. I don't know what to think - in a way is probably better to (try to) resign myself and just assume it's all over, but hope's a pernicious thing.

BTW nurse seemed to think having sex (which we did on NYE for first time in week and a half) might be enough to trigger this. Is that true do you think?

OP posts:
mistletoekisses · 02/01/2010 15:08

Re.the sex thing, yes have read about it tons. Think they call it cervical erosion, if you google it, you will see that you can get bleeding after intercourse.

Hope all turns out ok. The bleeding isnt getting heavier, which can only be a good thing.

Let me know how you get on. Are you going to the EPU on Monday?

stillfrazzled · 03/01/2010 09:50

OK, no bleeding overnight or first two wipes of day.

Just now got one tiny splodge of red and then some old looking brown stuff.

On tenterhooks a bit, but is getting better not worse, so that's promising, isn't it?

OP posts:
mistletoekisses · 03/01/2010 10:31

I think it is. From what I have read, if it is small quantities/ brownish, then it is nothing to be concerned about.

Am glad it is getting better. Fingers and toes, try and relax and enjoy your Sunday.

stillfrazzled · 04/01/2010 13:20

Hey again,

Well, is stopping and starting but when it starts, paler or browner than before and definitely less. Tends to start again as soon as I breathe out and think it might be stopping for good...

Spoke to the Early Pregnancy Unit this morning, and they say they will not scan me in two weeks unless it gets much worse. They don't do reassurance scans. So my first chance to find out everything's OK is 13th week if I make it that far.

I can't believe it - have asked them to reconsider but heard nowt back yet. Realise am probably overreacting and is good in a way since they're not worried, but 5 mins to make me feel better vs leaving me hanging for seven weeks?

OP posts:
mistletoekisses · 04/01/2010 13:56

Hi - EPU's all seem to have such different policies. I dont know if it is an option for you, but can you pay for a private scan? The early one done from about 7 weeks is called a viability scan. Lots of people say that they are a waste of money - and that you dont actually get to see much etc. etc.

But I had them with both pregnancies TBH. And seeing the tiny flicker on the screen both times was the best ever for me! I would have gone mad waiting until the 12/13 week scan.

But the fact that the bleeding hasnt gotten any heavier is hopefully really good news.

stillfrazzled · 04/01/2010 14:17

Would definitely pay if they won't go for it. Think will go see my GP tomorrow and wibble at him - if he refers me, assume they can't actually say no?If is no-no from him, will go private - I had a private nuchal last time and would do same again, so this is just a bit earlier.
