Anyone having a baby at 40+ years ?

Hi. I have actually had a baby at 41, but I am asking because I am still nursing my 16 month old and would like a younger sibling for him. I haven't ovulated since his pregnancy, and judging from past pregnancies (he is the youngest of 5) it looks like I probably won't til he's 2.I really don't want to wean him, especially there's no guarentee I'll get pregnant at my age(I'm 43 now).

My question is whether being preg at 44 is very different from being pregnant at 41? I found the pregnancy to to be fine, though did have plenty of early braxton hicks and a loose sacro illiac joint which was quite painful. I did find the testing stressful and probably would do things differently this time around.

Does anyone else have experience they can share? I have been feeling impatient about getting pregnant again, but I realise there's really nothing I can do to speed up the process short of weaning, and I'd rather not do that.

Took us 15 mths to conceive this one sucessfully after an early loss after 2mths. I was bf too and had to cut out completely in order to conceive. I don't get periods back until i have finished feeding so first reduced to once a day at bed, that was enought o bring periods back, had a loss 2 mths later then nothing for almost a year.

Weighing up everything else I decided to stop feeding, (she was 2 and 3 mths) and I wasn't getting any younger. I finally conceived 15 mths after first starting.

I have to say I do feel a bit different to when I was expecting#5, (when I was 40)ie I have thought of how others will see me at 43 and expecting. Sometimes I do wonder whether the extra years will make that much of a difference when the baby is young and waking up constantly but I don't think it will really.

My big concerns are testing I guess but I think we've decided not to have any and see what mother nature decides.

Hope you manage to get pregnant soon, personally my pg's are always awful so being a bit older won't make any difference to that, births are ok so am hoping that won't be much different either. Just have to get through these first few weeks of sickness then will be fine.

I'm 43 in January and due in just over a week. We used one of those fertility monitor gadgets and I conceived the first month we used it, so feel very lucky as that wasn't expected!! I would certainly recommend investing in one.

I don't think you will conceive whilst you are breast feeding. Do you really want to carry on for any longer? Time is precious at this age, and if you delay it may turn out to be impossible.

I've felt pretty well throughout, but don't have any previous pregnancies to compare it to as this is my first. My biggest gripes have been the belching, backache and lack of energy really. Otherwise things have all gone smoothly.

I keep saying to my DP that I don't ever want to be pregnant again, but I would love a sibling for him when he comes, so to increase the chances of this, may only breastfeed for about 3 or 4 months. They say every pregnancy is different though, so perhaps I will have more energy next time.

I'd say go for it if you want to, but you must realise that the chances of you getting pregnant whilst breastfeeding are pretty much nil. Its something to do with the hormones you produce whilst breastfeeding. Best of luck!
