Will be his first and my third. Trying to convince him things aren't as simple as he thinks!

My DH loved "the new father a dad's guide to the first year" by armin a brott.

It does it month by month and it's small chapters so a quick read, and not too patronising. Also had some interesting insights into things like why men think they do LOADS and the women think they don't do enough. Only did post-birth, so not sure if it's what you're looking for, but he did really enjoy and use this book.

He was already a SP with my first dc and an expectant first time dad with my second dc IYSWIM.

Good luck and wishing you well.

my DH is loving "The Expectant Father" - it's not patronising and not heavy-going. But it is quite US-centric (we live in America) in terms of how it talks about money, circumcision, and other stuff - and so I suppose some of that might put you off. The first two pages of each chapter are gold, though. the chapters go month-by-month, and it says "What's happening to your partner" under two headings, "Emotionally" and "Physically" - and then "What's happening to you" ...
I like that it talks about how men FEEL when their o/hs are pregnant.

My Dp's mate gave him a book in the style of a technical manual. Technical drawings, nursery configuration, input/output ratios etc. One thing that sticks out was: To activate silent mode, insert pacifier. It was funny, by Joe Borgenecht (sp?).
Probably not what you are looking for, OP, but enjoyable.
