I'm 100% sure that it wont do any harm. Relax and stop beating yourself up

LadyOfTheFlowers · 20/12/2009 21:35

I do usually but this time the mere smell of it makes me heave.
Am going to try one small glass of sparkling plonk with my dinner.

jadey24 · 20/12/2009 21:36

It wont hurt. You would need to drink excessive amounts to cause problems. I had about 3 glasses of wine though my whole pregnancy and bubba is tottaly fine along with most others who drink around the same. If you drink a bottle a week them i may be a little concerned lol

preggarschick · 20/12/2009 21:38

Mmmm christmas just wouldn't be the same without a wee drink. I'm sure all the food i'll be eating will soak it up,

I did , have two dd's both born early Jan and indulged in a little Baileys / wine on xmas day !

littleboyblue · 20/12/2009 21:40

Go for it. I had the odd drink through both my pregnancies and like jadey says, I think you have to drink excessively. Just be sensible. Don't drink the whole bottle but 1/2 measures will not hurt.

Tigresswoods · 20/12/2009 21:40

I am very much looking forward to a glass of bucks fizz on Christmas morning and then another on New Years Eve. Bring it on!!! Woo hoo!

minxofmancunia · 20/12/2009 21:44

you'll be absolutely fine as will the baby even if you have a full baileys rather than a half.

Evidence re alcohol consumption and pregnancy still inconclusive re amounts anyway. Had x2 glasses of red wine a week for the last 5 months of pg with ds and he's absolutely fine.

MrsKitty · 20/12/2009 22:05

Of course you can. I like Baileys with milk - makes it a longer drink and feels very Christmassy

stressheaderic · 20/12/2009 22:25

I had a glass of Jacques fruit cider at my works Xmas do, having not touched a drop of alcohol since the summer...and it was bloody lovely

katnkittens · 21/12/2009 00:24

Agree with MrsKitty

I love Baileys with milk or even in my coffee

Scrummy.

I don't want to buy any though as I'm the only person in my house who likes it so not much point and it will be tooooo tempting to have a swig everyday.

Maybe I can find a little bottle somewhere...

natapillar · 21/12/2009 01:54

I don't see any problem with a little treat. As Baileys is my absolute fave I would say yes,u indulge in that little tipple! I certainly will be treating myself

FuckingNinkyNonk · 21/12/2009 03:23

pmsl at this thread.

There is no evidence to suggest that moderate drinking is harmful for the baby, but quite a bit to suggest that it is healthy for both. Government guidelines are set at a 'simple message' to ensure there is no binge drinking and under the assumption that pregnant women are morons who can't think for themselves.

CarmenTinselPalmTreesSanDiego · 21/12/2009 03:38

Of course you can. What Ninky says. There's no evidence that mild to moderate drinking can do any harm. Foetal alcohol syndrome is the result of very heavy drinking (usually alcoholism).

violetbubbles · 21/12/2009 06:50

I'm looking forward to a cheeky wee Kahlua and milk on Christmas Eve .

MrsKitty · 21/12/2009 07:12

Ooh Violet- you know what makes Kaluha and milk even better? An additional shot of Baileys

hurrydownthechimneytonight · 21/12/2009 07:36

yayy now i dont feel guilty about the measure of whiskey I had last night. Advice on net says no more than 1 or 2 units a week no more than twice a week from what i can see.

So long as you dont get drunk you can enjoy a unit or 2 fine.

holytoast · 21/12/2009 10:00

I had some baileys last night - yummy! you will be fine - I have had the occasional glass of red wine once a week or so throughout - baby is absolutely fine! we are not just baby making machines, we are people who need to relax and not go mad- and ninkynonk is right, the governmant guidlines, in my opinion, are set to the lowest common demonimator, thinking basically that none of us can work out what is moderate drinking and will hit the special brew on a daily basis. Enjoy! ooh, just remembered, you can get those gift packs with a tiny bottle of baileys and chocs in tescos...bet they are on sale now too...

VeronicaCake · 21/12/2009 11:25

Yes.

MrsMattie · 21/12/2009 11:26

I had a glass of bubbly when pregnant. It was the best bevvy I've ever had!

bigpreggybelly · 21/12/2009 11:57

Yes, I fully intend to do just that at Christmas. And have a glass of champagne! I've gone off normal wine, so not going to deprive myself totally. Shame the sloe gin isn't ready yet...

There's nothing wrong with having the odd occasional drink whilst you're pregnant, just don't get pissed.

nickytwotimes · 21/12/2009 12:00

I'm 16 wks and now the hyperemisis has gone I can't wiat for my wee tipple.

Agree with those saying that no booze at all rule is aimed at lowest common denominator (who never listen anyway).

memorylapse · 21/12/2009 13:32

course you can, go for it..a little tipple will not hurt..so long as you dont knock back the whole bottle!

Emster30 · 21/12/2009 15:37

I had a sherry a couple of weeks ago and a little glass of wine last night, which was lovely! Shame it gave me dreadful indigestion though. I will also have a glass of something or other on Christmas Day and something to toast the New Year with. I had planned to wait until 12 weeks (3 Jan) but hey, I don't think it will do much harm. Enjoy the Bailey's!

LaurieFairyonthetreeeatscake · 21/12/2009 15:41

Yes you can
