Movements with second baby?

I am 18 weeks pg with my second db. Ds was born 8 months ago so I'm sure that things are still a bit "baggy" inside. However, I haven't felt any movement with this pg at all and I'm getting really worried (even though my m/w found a heartbeat with a doppler 2 weeks ago). I thought that I would feel movements earlier than I did with ds - I first felt a movement with him at about 19 weeks.

Can you remember when you first felt movement with your second (especially if you fell pg soon after your first)?

hi piglit congrats on pg btw!

i felt movement earlier with 2nd, but it was still about 20/21 wks (didnt feel them with 1st till 24 wks)

so 18 wks is really early, give yourself another fortnight i would say, and dont worry

19wks for the 1st pg is really early, isnt it?

maybe this baby is a sleepy baby!

Hi piglit - if you're worried then please go to the midwife/hospital to get it checked. I'm sure it's because you're a lot more active running around after ds that you're not noticing them.

But just get it checked to be on the safe side.

Thanks nailpolish! Ds moved alot when I was pg and his nickname is Wriggle so perhaps this will be a less wriggly baby. I must admit that I was surprised when my m'wife asked me about movements when I saw her 2 weeks ago and I suppose it's been on my mind ever since. I'm sure that you are right about moving around wishingchair. I sat at a desk all day when I was pg with ds and I don't sit down much at all now (and when I do I fall asleep!)

Piglit - The position of the placenta may be cushioning the feelings this time. My friend didn't feel any movements until 21 wks with her second.... and the mw said that was probably why.

Thanks QF. It's a relief to know that this is not necessarily "abnormal"

piglit, i am pg with no.2 and was told that i SHOULD feel it earlier, but i didn't. i was quite worried about it but when i talked to my midwife, she pointed out that my notes (from many many scans!) said that i had an anterior placenta, so i wouldn't feel the baby kick. that was at about 18/19 weeks and 2 weeks later it was much more consistent. i think i was panicking as i expected the movement to be immediately routine and reliable, as it is only 9 months since ds1 was born!! how the mind plays tricks!!! now i am 26 weeks and being regularly kicked to pieces by the gorgeous little blighter!! if you are worried ask your midwife but i certainly wouldn't be panicking (with the benefit of hindsight ). good luck anyway!

i think each pregnancy is different although i have felt movement from around 16 weeks this time and not until around 22 with dd. what is normal anyway? congratulations by the way and hope all goes well for you and your family

Thanks everyone. I will put it to the back of my mind and just wait until it happens. My bump is definitely growing so that's a good sign. Mind you, so is my bum....
