5 weeks pregnant how excited can I be?

Hi there.
I found out yesterday that I'm about 5 weeks pregnant. I'm delighted. I have been looking at various books and websites and am now wondering how excited I'm allowed to be... Do you have to wait until after 12 weeks? Is it really so uncertain until after then?
I read somewhere that 1 in 4 first pregnancies are miscarried before 12 weeks. - I have 3 sisters who all had no problems in their pregnancies, I'm worried that I'll be the 1 out of 4. Though maybe if they were ok then I'm likely to be ok too.
Any adivce would be gladly received.

well I told most people at 2 weeks due to a bit of a slip of the tongue.
But I did only tell close family the next time, at about 6 weeks I think.

Congratulations! You are allowed to be excited - enjoy this moment.

As for miscarriage - what will be will be and there is no way you can prepare for it. As you say about one in four pregnancies end in miscarriage, which means that three out of four pregnancies are successful - please try not to worry!

Whatever happens you are pregnant now, and you are allowed to be happy and excited about that.

We told everyone straight away with DD1, and that was fine because she was/is OK.

But then I had two MCs, which we told people about being preg with the first one. It's not that you shouldn't tell anyone, but if anything does happen (which it prob wont) you then have to deal with people asking how things are, and that can be difficult.

I'm now 37 wks with DD2, and we kept it to ourselves until the scan. At five weeks I was excited but kept it in check, really just to protect myself.

It's a difficult one, hope everything goes well for you

Thanks everyone. Such kind and positive messages.

I went to see the doc yesterday and apparently I'm 7 and a half weeks now and I think I'm going to share the news on Christmas Eve as I was having a little party anyway.

AgentZigzagDoingAYuleLog - glad things are going well for you with this pregnancy, 37 weeks must be very exciting (and uncomfortable..?)

Hey Holly, I'm 5 and a bit weeks pregnant and very excited

ILoveGregoryHouse · 22/12/2009 18:54

Holly, think the 25% is for pgs that don't implant after ovulation. Might be wrong but I sure hope not!

Congratulations.

Congrats Holly and Vix.

I'm six weeks pregnant (feels very odd to even type that, it's my first post).

Such a worrying time - bursting to tell people but knowing that's prob not the best idea quite yet!!

I have just joined Mumsnet and I was delighted to read your post Holly because I found out yesterday that I'm 5 weeks pregnant! I'm excited, I'm nervous, I'm all over the shop. The only person my husband and I have told is my Mum, she used to be a midwife so I think I may be relying on her quite a bit! I have a feeling that I'm going to find it really difficult to stay calm and be patient over the coming weeks! Congratulations to you ladies, my husband is already winding me up by telling me how much Port and Stilton he plans on consuming on Christmas Day! xx

skidoodle · 22/12/2009 19:24

Well he is consuming Port and Stilton for 3 this year

With both my pregnancies I've told people that I would tell if anything were to go wrong, but not gone completely public until around 14 weeks.

You can be as excited as you feel - let yourself enjoy this early phase
