what's everyone wearing on Christmas Day?

Know it's a strange question...I usually dress up for Christmas Day, but since I'm 18 weeks and already massive, need inspiration!

In my dreams it would be a beautiful Isabella Oliver dress? but a) can't afford it and b) they don't do dresses for short arses like me

bin bag?!? festively trimmed red maternity bra and knickers??

just wondering!

Hi there - my fave eve/xmas day/need a boost outfit at present is a tightish stretchy black, jersey/wool, V-neck with a kind of knot effect under the bust H&M dress from the Viktor & Rolf collaboration a year or two back. The black is slimming and the matt fabric is flattering, but its clear I am pregnant not fat (!) and the low V draws attention to the fab boobs!

I am massive too at 26 weeks but have been very disappointed by maternity clothes - including tbh Isabella Oliver (I was given a few of her tops and a dress... but I don't really like the fabric).

I have found that even at the size I am there are just better dresses, tops etc. at nearly all the high street stores that work.

In fact, I have hardly bought any maternity clothes after looking at loads. I found I had some great things in my wardrobe already that I hadn't worn for a while that felt almost new as my shape is so different!

I should add that I will also be wearing the Mama Spanx maternity pants and maternity footless tights... well... will probably end up taking the Spanx off (not publicly!) after lunch.

MrsBadger · 15/12/2009 19:53

dull mat smock by the look of it...

pigleychez · 15/12/2009 21:00

A large 18 weeks here too and have bought this. Fits nicely over the bump ( has a slightly gathered bit just under the bust) and doesnt cost a fortune so doesnt matter if it gets slightly stretched.

Add black legging and some funky jewellery... job done!

gizzy1973 · 15/12/2009 21:04

i will be 38 weeks by christmas day so might manage my balck trousers and white top if not think i fancy my comfy jogging bottoms

jellybean86 · 15/12/2009 21:05

probably pjs lol

woodhj · 16/12/2009 07:24

I have a soft jersey material dress in black from Newlook (maternity range) which has a silk bow under boobs and black legging to go underneath.
It is dressy and comfortable im 36 weeks by then and dont want anything tight around my stomach especially eating that big overindulgent dinner i plan to eat with trifle and endless chocs after!!

first1 · 16/12/2009 08:47

I'll be almost 20 weeks come Crimbo, but do look like I've swollen a football already! I've got a long black, sequiny vest from M2B at Mothercare which will be teamed with my ASOS maternity jeggings and some fab heels! Then as soon as everyone has left, hello jammies!

Merry Christmas everyone

mustbemadno3 · 16/12/2009 19:07

I am wearing a black 60s style dress by jesire in john lewis, black shiny tights and funky red vivian westwood shoes which were £80 which i thought was reasonable. I have brought the same prepreg size (10) as it is wide fittingand i can wear again afterwards.....i hope!

rumpleteaser · 17/12/2009 08:30

I will be wearing a large napkin tucked into my jumper, or maybe a bib, as I will be stuffing my face big time!

I got some nice beige maternity corduroy trews with adjustable waist over bump for maximum chocolate/mince pie/turkey consumption.
A long purple lacy vest and a sheer black wrap/tie top thing. Comfy and smart I reckon.
I'll be 24 weeks, I look like a barrel already!

Red Vivian Westwood shoes sound funky!
I got some white wellies with black flower design on if we go out doors! We have lots of snow

WickedWitchSouthWest · 17/12/2009 10:48

lol @ rumpleteaser

I'm further behind than you lot - I'll be 13 weeks next week so at the just a bit fat stage, and can't fit into any of my nice christmassy options Maternity clothes are still too big really but normal stuff just makes me uncomfortable.

I've just ordered from DP's a maternity navy blue satin tunic (it has a tie around the waist so hopefully won't look too massive) and some non maternity silver sequin leggings for new year and will use the same tunic dress with some metallic grey leopard print tights (also non maternity but will wear on my hips). Fingers crossed it works!

MrsBadger · 17/12/2009 11:16

oh scrap the dull mat smock idea

thanks to the awesome power of dh's googling I will mostly be wearing this to every Christmas / New Year event

look at the price

the price!

they have a few other mat bits too thus

MrsMattie · 17/12/2009 11:18

I am going to wrap my self up in a big red satin bow and serve myself to DH on a big silver platter.

Or I might just wear jeans.

Bettymum · 17/12/2009 11:51

I'm wearing the Isabella Oliver dress I bought last time I was pg . It's a lovely bright pink one with ruffles but only really good value since I bought it with a reduction and have had more than one pregnancy, otherwise I would have been a bit .
Otherwise I have a long black sequin top from Peacocks (non maternity) and some flowy black trousers.
It all may depend how cold it gets in Lancashire on Christmas Day.

Harimad · 17/12/2009 12:08

I'll be wearing pyjamas.
I'll either have just given birth (due Xmas Eve) or be just overdue and since we're not planning on travelling anywhere (even to hospital as having a home birth), comfort will be my first consideration!!

RnB · 17/12/2009 12:16

OOh Mrs Badger - thanks for the link to that dress! Just got the last one!

WinterWonderland · 17/12/2009 12:42

MrsBadger how are their sizes? True to pre-pregnancy? Fab site.

MrsBadger · 17/12/2009 12:44

no idea - am a 10-12 myself so have taken a punt on the Medium, on the gounds that I can wrap the wrap bit tighter if necc but a Small is 8-10 and will prob be too tight on the shoulders

this is the brand they're from, have a look at their size chart here

MamaLazarou · 17/12/2009 12:45

I will be wearing the new maternity/nursing pyjamas DH bought me this morning, a fluffy robe and some nice cosy socks. And a paper hat at dinnertime, obviously.

WickedWitchSouthWest · 17/12/2009 22:15

love love love that site mrsbadger even my grumpy dh is impressed!

MrsMc82 · 17/12/2009 22:52

I'll be 36 weeks so most likely in my pjs - got my mum and dad coming for xmas lunch and have pre warned them that its likely I won't be arsed getting dressed!!

Going to the inlaws on boxing day tho so will prob make bit more of an effort then - prob navy jumper dress from next or my super comfy holly willoughby maternity black jersey dress.... both would be with leggings and flat knee high boots

Love this thread btw!

TishTosh21 · 18/12/2009 09:09

Im 10 weeks and bloated all the time so I got some leggings and a longish sequiny top from new look. Havent told my parents about the baby yet....

3frenchhens · 18/12/2009 09:43

I shall be wearing my bargains from blooming marvellous 50% off got a checked tunic with leggings and boots and a longish top with wrap neckline leggings cardie and funky jewellery. Agree what a good thread

PumpkinPi · 18/12/2009 10:24

Haha - I'll be 39 wks + 5! If I haven't already popped I think I might just cut some arm holes into a duvet cover!
We're going to a local pub for lunch...

theminniebauble · 18/12/2009 10:46

I've got a lovely, bright purple cotton jersey dress that's sort of gathered at the boobs. It's from Gap Maternity and was v good value. Wear it with black, thick tights and low black patent heels.

I wore it to my work christmas do and was a little fearful of looking like a ribena-berry as I am 38 weeks. However everyone was full of compliments.
