Justs started watching it & its at my local hosplital west middleswx in isleworth i had 3 of my babies there bit mad when you see it on tv & theres people you know on there

having just watched that lady give birth, I am thinking to myself 'what the hell have I done?' I'm 24 weeks gone, is it too late to change my mind?

I used to freak myself out last time by watching loads of iths of Discovery health. I did fingd it useful though. I've started using a Natal Hypnotherapy CD this time and think it's really helping. Not sure how much good it'll be on the day though

I would like to go for a water-birth but seeing just how quickly things can go wrong, not sure I can do that.....OMG I will be doing it without my DP too, my mum will be with me though.....need to stop thinking about it I think.....

If it helps - DH (whose not inclined to compliment) said "Gosh, you never screamed like that!" Everyone's different, but I went for more "mooing" than screaming.

You'll be fine - at least you don't have to worry about an ITV camera crew up your fanjo!

I agree Mars. Have had 4 DS's (one set of twins) all VB. For some strange reason I dont make very much noise in labour. I had an amazing midwife with DS4 she was kind, compassionate and - most of all - very calm. I must admit watching that birth tonight terrified me - but it doesn't have to be like that x

hoops997 I watched it and thought exactly the same thing. I am 29 weeks and it wasn't helped by my mum saying "you're huge! My bump was that size when I gave birth. I think its going to be a big baby." arrrrrrrgggggghhhhh!!!!!

Me too! Am way more anxious about this birth than I was with DS, I think I woke up every hour with some horrid image/thought last night!!

I watched it last night with my SIL, i'm 25+2 with DD2 she is 25+5 with DC1. The difference in our reactions was comical!

My DP then started going on about my episiotomy and how I was being "hacked" by a pair of blunt scissors! (nothing like this at all BTW and I never even felt the episiotomy) and my SIL's face was priceless.

It's funny how you can just shrug it all off afterwards but had this been my first pregnancy I'd have been exactly the same as SIL.

Just goes to show, you WILL be fine! And as soon as that babe is in your arms you forget all about what you've just been through, which is a shame in a way as in some cases it's bloody heroic!

The whole thing really pissed me off
That is a managed birth, not a natural birth. The woman should have been up and about walking. bathing, just moving.

Maybe it was not convenient for the cameras or maybe that is the way most births are these days :shame:

I started watching then realised it was undoing all the hard work of my hypnobirthing classes. Ive had a child, and it was not a good experience, but this time i feel i am better prepared and Im going to try my best to be as relaxed as possible.

Have a look at some hypnobirthing videos to get a different perspective if you are scared.

It scared the life out of us too! Dh hates watching things like that so was most annoyed that I made him. When the baby was not breathing dh said that he couldn't hack it and doesn't want to be at the birth. All my plans for a natural birth went out of the window and I am thinking of asking for a repeat c-section. I know its only one clip of one birth but that type of birth is my worst nightmare.

I actually cried myself to sleep last night after watching that. The vision of that doctor pulling on the ventouse was enough for me.

Im pg with dc2 and had a straight forward labour with dd. This time I am sh!tting myself about the birth.

My first thought was 'what the hell is she doing on that bed'? No wonder she had an epidural. With dd I walked around all the time until I was fully dilated and got on the bed - This time I want to squat/stand to deliver.

I thought Amanda was really good though

One thought I had last night was that the good thing about giving birth is that we dont get to see everything down at the 'other end!!'

I only just realised that was a ventouse proceedure from the last message on here and I've had four sons Had ventouse delivery with DS4 and thank God I didnt have to watch from the cameras angle!!!

AuntyMartha - spot on about it being a managed birth. If only that poor lady had been encouraged to be up and on her feet/on all fours - I was shouting at the telly for her to get up! And the other lady who we saw deliver first, she looked so uncomfortable lying there.

So glad I had a HB last time and hopefully will again this time

Honestly ladies - don't be scared, labour does not have to be like that. Yes, things can go wrong and it can be absolute agony but lying on your back in bed is not the most productive way to labour. You'll feel far more in control if you're up and about I promise.

I won't be allowed to be up and about though which is why I am so nervous. I feel I am setting myself up for failure.

I walked around/tried all sorts of positions when I was in labour with DS but when it came to it I wanted to lie down as I found it most comfortable and needed least effort - am I a freak?!

I was also quite shocked that they were all labouring on their backs in bed ???

thedollshouse why won't you be allowed to be active? I had a home VBAC 5.5months ago, it was a very active labour, midwives monitored me every 10mins etc etc. Even in a hospital you should be able to arrange the way you'd like your labour to go e.g intermitent monitering/a portable cfm?

I really tried to make myself feel very confident and positive about my labour. Read lots of Ina May, other people's positive birth experiences etc. I really think this helped as I went into labour 'knowing' I could do this!!

I had my daughter at West Middlesex and I walked about no problem, I don't think it's indicative of that hospital. I had a brilliant midwife experience there.

I wanted to lie down when it came to the push part though too.
