breech at 30 weeks - what did you try to turn the baby and did it work?

Sums it up really. I'm 30+3 and the baby is currently breech. I'm keen to have a natural birth but will not do so if it doesn't turn. What did you do and did it work? Any advice gratefully received.

shine a torch up your fanny and get you DH to coo to the baby to cajole it around.

or you could get on all fours, and kneel there for a bit each day, bounce on the gym ball and go for a longish gentle walk as often as you can. hope that baby turns for you, most likely will, you have ages yet

I was still breech at 34 weeks, try not to worry, baby turned nicely without me having to do much at all and stayed in the optimal position for birth.

I did try to make sure I always sat upright or slightly forward (like over the back of a chair or propped up on pillows) rather than lounging back on the sofa, but you have plenty of time!

Thanks. I did spend all of last weekend painting skirting boards in the hope that the positiion would be good for turning the baby but I don't think it worked. Will check out the website for ideas.

My DD was breech from 32 to 34 wks. I bounced on a birth ball, got on all fours a few times a day and also walked A LOT... She turned quite happily at around 34 wks (mind I was uncomfortable for the WHOLE night it took her to turn lol)!

Both my babies were breech and they needed to be turned at 37 weeks by ECV. (I must have a funny-shaped uterus or something !!)

I was a bit dubious about the ECV but it was fine, hurt quite a lot but was quite quick both times. Having them turned meant that I could have natural births both times. I did need a ventouse with DS1 but DS2 was born in a hurry on the sitting room floor - about as natural as you could want !

Try all the techniques, and if all else fails, consider an ECV. Also as others have said, 30 weeks is plenty of time.

Go to a Chinese Herbal Practitioner and get some Moxybustion sticks. You burn them near your little toe, and they work on an accupressure point to get the baby moving.

I was breech at 33 weeks, and after a couple of sessions, (DH held stick in place), I felt a huge kerfuffle in my tummy in the middle of the night and made a conscious effort to stay completely relaxed. In the morning, midwife confirmed DS1 had moved and was now head down.

You don't need to worry at 30 weeks, honestly, baby has ten weeks to turn round. I'd start worrying about 37 weeks as it'll flip back and forth until then. I'm 30 weeks and my baby has changed at every appointment I've been to this week I think, and I've been in and out of hospital. I was a little more comfy when she was cephallic though, I've got to say. I reckon she's probably transverse at mo. I'll start doing all 4s and squats at about 37 weeks if I have a natural birth.

Like KirstyJC I had ECV at 38 or 39 weeks. It was fine - no probs, healthy baby born in 2 hours labour at 40+10.

They might tell you that the baby might turn breech again, but you can do ECV right until the early stages of labour.

Mine was the right way round at your stage, and breech by 34 weeks. I swear it was the yoga that made it turn the wrong way. Now 36 weeks and no idea where it is but will find out tomorrow.

So I wouldn't worry about it just yet, because it is still able to move around quite a lot and whatever postion its in at 30 weeks is pretty meaningless. I think once you get to 36 weeks it generally doesn't move up and down, it can only rotate around a vertical axis (i.e. go from back to back and posterior and vice versa, but not go from head down to head up).

Oh, I tried moxibustion a couple of times, but you're meant to do that once at the acupuncturist then twice a day at home for 15 minutes for a couple of weeks - bit impractical really if you/your partner are still at work. Plus it makes your house smell like a drugs den. So I guess I didn't really do it properly.

Crawling around on all 4's and swaying your hips in circles is meant to help.

I'm 5'6" and apparently have unusually tight stomach muscles which is why I'm a bit concerned that it might have difficulty turning. Trying to relax as much as poss. Interesting that some of you mention the babies turning in the night as I'm sure mine was trying the other night (though didn't manage it as confirmed by the midwife today) Will put it out of my mind for a few weeks. Had scan yesterday and it is now head down again! So I wouldn't worry too much for now BethyLou.

S'pose I'd better start writing my birth plan then... wasn't gonna bother if it was still breech.
