I am 6 weeks pregnant and trying not to stress but had quite severe stress? Can this be dangerous? This is my third baby and never stressed before so not sure of complications it can cause?

Hi, I also went through a traumatic time in early pregnancy, I had split from my husband and wasn't coping well, I was also drinking and generally not taking care of myself as wasn't sure if I was going to continue with pregnancy. I am now 20 weeks and everything as far as I know is fine. don't worry too much stress as far as i'm aware doesnt cause complications in baby. my midwife said that I could have antidepressants but declined as feeling much calmer now.

Hi there - I too have had a very stressful time... but my mum reminded me that she had an even more stressful time (bereavement, homelessness, horrible things) when she was pregnant with me and I don't think I have been scarred by it!

I also remind myself that women, all animals, have had babies in stressful circumstances forever (I remember reading articles about a woman who's mother had had her on the train to a concentration camp and another who gave birth during the Blitz). Babies are much tougher than perhaps we give them credit for in this day and age.

Try not to worry and tell yourself that your baby will be OK if it was meant to be. Also, try to watch that you don't get into a dreadful loop of getting more and more stressed about being stressed (this is my speciality!).

Take care.
