Can anyone help me de-code my ultrasound results?

I went for a dating scan this morning, thinking I was about 8+2 but they said they couldn't see anything, and are now concerned about an ectopic pregnancy. This is what my results say:

Gestational Sac: 2.7mm
Endometrial Tickness: 10.0mm midline echo:intact
Corpus Luteum: 20x20x20, solid

Pouch of Douglas: free fluid: none seen

Summary: inconclusive. Ectopic cannot be excluded.

What does it all mean? Does it look good or not? I can't find much on the web about Corpus luteum sizes and gestational sac sizes.

Thanks

how did they do the scan? Was it transabdominal or transvaginal? Have they told you to go back in a couple of weeks time?

They did both scans.

They have taken blood today and told me to go back Friday morning so that they can take more blood. Havn't booked me back in for another scan though!

Sounds like you definitely have a start of a pregnancy but perhaps it's failed to fully develop. But then, it may be that it was in a difficult position to see everything and be 100% sure.

The blood test will likely be to test for your levels of pregnancy hormones.

Give your GP or midwife team a call - they should be able to go through everything with you and can explain properly what all the terms mean.

Good luck

Thanks!

Not sure when I will get the results of the blood, as I have to go again on Friday. So may not find out until next week?

That must be really scary for you. I don't know what the results mean, but I had an ectopic and had to have the fallopian tube removed. The pregnancy must have been about 7 or 8 weeks by that time. When I had the scan they found nothing on the abdominal scan and had to use the vaginal one. They still didn't find a sac, just a shadow which they weren't sure what it was. Therefore if they've found a sac that could be good news. On the other hand, with this viable pregnancy I had an early scan at 6 weeks and they found the sac and the heartbeat (a tiny fluttering blob at the bottom) for an interuterine pregnancy. In your case it could just be that baby is hiding, but it sounds like you will have to wait for the test results. I know how absolutely awful that can be - they will be testing hormone levels in your blood - in a normal pregnancy they approximately double every day, with a miscarriage they fall and with an ectopic they go up but very slowly. I really hope everything is okay for you, but if not and you want someone to chat to feel free to PM me as I have had to deal with the awfulness of an ectopic. Naomi xxx
