Bumpt 5 weeks too big, worried

Hi,

I am 33+5 days pregnant and my bump size is 38 cm (equals 38 weeks). My dates are correct and were confirmed by ulatrasound.

Also at the same time my urine test has come back with white blood cells (possible UTI).

Did anyone else have such a bigger bump?
I start googling (which is always a bad idea....) and all those comments about congenital defects came back in regards to bigger bump! (Had a CVS - NT of 3.9 - and all was normal).

I now have to wait a week to go for a scan for measurement of baby again.

So worried.. would appreciate any experiences or opinions shared. thank you very much.

don't worry too much yet. my first 2 babies always measured 1-2cm over (they were biggish babies but not huge)

and measuring is really not that accurate. different midwives will give you different readings, and a lot depends on how baby is laying

with my last pg i was sent for a scan as midwife thought abby was measuring too small! ha! i don't do small babies lol. he was just lying strangely

i had an absolutely massive bump. everyone used to comment on it, saying i would have a 12 lb baby. i was stressed thinking i'd eaten too much sweets and my baby would be enormous. at five months someone asked me if i was eight months. everyone was gobsmacked.
my baby was 4 days late and was a trim 7 lbs 5 oz. at 2 years old he is still a tiddler and smaller than his peers.

i am a size 10 normally, so wasn't overweight. probably size 12 after birth and now back to size ten with no exercise or diet so it was all bump. my dh said my placenta was massive and depending where that is can give you a massive bump

Oh chick don't get yourself too het up about this. I had a growth scan last week because my consultant said I was measuring 3 weeks over my dates and was convinced that baby was an absolute whopper. He's big (but then so were my last two) but well within the normal range. Sonographer also told me that the placenta looks large and is high at the front so could possibly affect my measurements.

Those measurements are only a rough guide anyway. Deep breaths and try to look forward to seeing baby on scan again.

Don't worry about this. At 28 weeks I was measuring 31cm. Have just had my 32 week check and am now 32cm. It depends on so many things - water retention, time of day of your appointment, growth spurts, where they start the tape measure!

Also - if your baby is big, your baby is big. That's just the way it's going to be. No point worrying about it.

madwomanintheattic · 09/12/2009 00:22

with dd1 i measured large for dates, had lots of extra scans, ended up being monitored every day for the last weeks.

in the end they gave me a cs, as they said she was enormous. she was 8lb 6oz.

the next two were bigger and vbac lol, i pay no attention to 'measurements', they are so very often flawed.

try not to worry - there are loads of threads on here about big for dates. they would be much more sensible reading than dr google lol. hope your scan reassures you - but again, our doc claimed dd1 was going to be 10lb 13, that's why he insisted cs lol...

Hi Jaa, I had a similar experience bump was measuring almost 5cm to big, I was referred to the consultant for growth scan, I went after 2 weeks and they measured me and now im only 2cm over and had not grown the past couple weeks, so its all equaled out.

They said this is common and its all equalling out, so please try not to worry and see what happens, your growth may start to slow down, also be aware when they measure if its a different midwife they wont always get the pubic bone at the exact spot to measure from, which I personally think is one of the biggest problems for messsing up on measurements!

Good luck and try to relax xx

Hiya,

Is there any chance you might have GD? Could explain being large for dates? I'm 34 weeks and measuring 43 weeks, but have been measuring big since 20 weeks or so. Have had growth scans and baby is bang on average.

mistlethrush · 09/12/2009 09:05

I was about 5cms over by this stage too... MW said 'gestational diabetes' and left me to panic for a week. Consultant said what rubbish, but we'll have to test any way as you've been referred... Mine was just a big baby - he was a week early and 10.5

decafgirl · 09/12/2009 12:39

My mum was told I'd be a nice 6lb something...I was 8lb 9oz! Take measurements with a pinch of salt. We've been having babies for a long time but centimetres were invented about what, 50 years ago..?

hi Jaabaar, i wouldnt worry too much my Ds measured big all the way through, was measuring 44-45@36 weeks and was induced 4 days later to have a no so big 8lb 11oz boy...am glad that never went bigger but the way they were going on you would have thought he was the size of an elephant.

things change all the time, my friend ( a midwife) was induced with her son at 36 weeks as he was 'large' he was then swiftly put in ICU as he was on 5lb 9oz, so dont be worried!

at the end of the day this is what womens bodies are designed for!

enjoy seeing your LO at your scan!
