The other day while on my way to work i bumped into a colleague who chatted away then said to me:

"look at you, you look fantastic, you look blooming"

Now, i giggled nervously at this comment, i said tarah and went on my way.

Then the realisation dawned on me that the cheeky bitch thinks that i am so fat that i look like im expecting.

Well, call me picky but i wanted to deck her.
I chunnered and muttered all my way to work!

Her husband works with me too, so i nabbed him and told me of this encounter and suddenly realised that he had also been offering to carry things allot for me lately.
I politly put him in the picture and added that ACTUALLY, i have lost 10lbs in weight.
Thankyou very much.

Any experience of this sort of thing yourself.....or is it just me that these things happen to!!!!?????
Hasten to add, i laughed at it, he laughed at it too and im sure that when he gets home and tells her, she will also laugh...or hand in her resignation.....hehehehe

I don't know, but I always took "blooming" to mean "looking really happy and healthy" (i.e. plenty of pregnant women are not blooming, that's why it's a compliment). It is something that happens to many women when preg, but can happen at other times.

I think perhaps that's what she meant.

About a year before I actually became pregnant I'd gone from a size 12 to a size 18 in about 4 years but most of the weight went round my middle. Twice in about 3 months people I hadnt seen for ages asked me when I was due and "how are you, well I can see how are you are!" In fairness I was a lot bigger than when they'd last seen me and they both new I'd got married a year before, so I have to forgive them, but it was a relief when I was pregnant to finally have a legitamate excuse for my weird shape!

I thought blooming just meant that you had a happy glow around you.

Definitely a compliment - think of flowers- when they bloom they're looking great

I was wearing a lemon coloured top, and my Dad paid me this wonderful 'compliment':
'That's a nice blouse - you look just like a baby chick'

Blooming is definately a compliment, think of it as someone saying you look radiant, beautiful, healthy, happy.
