Strep B - Negative with dd, do I need to re test for dc2??

A friend of mine had this without knowing and passed the infection on to her ds. Luckily he was ok but because of this I was tested with dd. I was negative.

Does that mean I dont carry it at all? Should I be tested again with this baby? Mw's in my area are very reluctant to test. Thanks.

The thing about Group B strep is that you can never know for sure that you don't have it. As such the reason the NHS is reluctant to test is apparently because it can give a false sense of security if you are tested as negative. You can get a neg one day and a pos the next.

I am a GBS carrier and it may ( we will never know for sure) have contributed to my ds death. As such I am being tested monthly for it in the urine (it is more likely to be dangerous in utero if it gets into your urine during pg) I will then be regularly swab tested for the last month of pregnancy. Now this is probably overkill, but is the best way to cover the possibility of GBS infection and with my history they are being super cautious.

For most people the NHS (or at least our trust) test when waters break as then there is an urgency to get baby out if GBS is present. Asking for a swab towards the end of pg could give you a better idea.

I hope that helps.

Thank you. My cousin also knows of someone who lost their dc from it but because its not tested for normally they never knew until it was too late. Im sorry for your loss.

I think I will push for a test again this time.
