Hi all i'm new to this so please bare with me, and could any of you lovely people please give me some advice!

my period was due on the 21st november, when it did't arrive i took a hpt and to our surprise it was positive, then on friday 27th november i started to bleed, and continued to bleed all over the weekend, and have carried on taking hpt, and they still continued to be positive. Today i went to see the gp and they sent me to the hospital, where they did a urine test and told me that there pregnancy test said negative ( even though i did two cheap hpt and one expensive test that tells you how far pregnant you are,all before 10.00am and all three said positive) they wouldn't scan me because there test said negative, so they have taken blood and asked me to phone back for result after 5pm, which i did and they said the results are not back and to ring tomorrow afternoon, please please can anyone tell me whats going on and am i or aren't i pregnant!!! sorry for this message being so long (i forgot to say that the bleeding was bright red but not as heavy as my periods usually are)

ok I dont know much about this so might not be very helpful.
A pregnancy test can still show positive if you have miscarried. As the hormones are still there. It dosnt matter wether you use expensive or inexpensive pt as they all do the same job. The gps only use cheap ones anyway. And just because your bleeding dosnt mean to say you have or are miscarrying as you can bleed during a pregnancy.

Think you can only hang fire and see what results are, I hope it is good news and you are pgnt. But if not then please stay positive.
Good luck x

hello,

ditto the above, IF you have miscarried, the hormone levels will be dropping but may well still be high enough to show up a positive on an hpt.

I'm afraid the only option is to wait for the blood results

Good luck, I really hope it's good news for you.

Thanks for your wisdom, i still find it funny though that i had 3 positives today before i went to hospital and within 3 hours they had a negative.... confused.com or what!!

yeah I know, I think the tests the nhs uses aren't particularly sensitive, whereas if you're using first responses, or even some of the supermarket own brands, you get a really early result!

Fingers crossed for you x

Hiya

one blood test result will only tell them if you have HCG in your blood. This number can be anything so dont worry if its low or high, they need to take another 24 hours later and if it doubles then they need to scan you and doubling HCG numbers are a good sign!

Good luck and let us know how you get on x
