Had v rushed visit to GD nurse today. Armed at 30 wks with monitor, book and told do test at least twice a day if have number of readings over 8 after 1 hour post eating then to ring andprob get insulin. Just done one 11.8-how bad is that? And how many readings over 8 would you have before phoning them again.

Having growth scan on Weds and nervous wreck baby is gonna be huge.

I don't know much about GD but just wanted to say don't panic! Normal blood sugar should ideally be below 7, so 11.8 is high. I would phone and see what they say. And try not to get too fixated on the huge baby issue......they will monitor you closely and probably induce you before 40 weeks if they think baby is getting too large.

Hi mummy I am 32 weeks preganant and have had gestational diabetes since 26 weeks. My readings were over 8 for around 10 days usually between 8 - 11. On my weekly diabetes visit they put me on Metformin which so far fingers crossed has managed to low them. It is scary when they go up and i was ringing my diabetes nurse all the time, I have now learnt to relax a bit cos you do get closely monitored. At scan last week my baby was 5lb which isnt overly big, consultant is expecting her to be bigger at scan in 2 weeks but makes a nice change really as dd was only 4 and a half pound born.

You will get used to testing and the boring diet and the meds. I am P**D off at the moment as i only have a small frame and cos the baby is getting bigger i have split pelvis thing and split upper abdominal muscles x

i had GD was diagnosed at 30 weeks...never had a single reading above 5 and never had any low ones either...i seemed it control it fine!

as for huge baby i was measuring 2-3cms too big all the way through pg til 39 weeks when was measuring 38 weeks...anyway dd arrived at 39+3 after a sweep at 39 weeks weighing 6lb 10oz, so just cos u have GD doesnt mean u are gonna have a HUGE baby...

btw i had growth scan at 35 weeks and she was measuring fine, they dont know why i was measuring too big.

think my waters had already gone when i was 39weeks and measuring 38weeks cos when i went into labour they went to rupture them to move it along quicker (even though it was going fast anyway) cos her heartrate was dipping alot and they werent there! God knows where they went and when they went but im convinced they had gone before my sweep at 39 weeks cos i went from measuring 2-3cms too big to 1cm too small!
