Head down at 28weeks?!!? :S

Hey everyone, I'm 28weeks pregnant, went to my midwifes last week and she said babi is now head down [already??]. Since then have been getting a lot of sharp shooting pains at the base of my womb [so suppose that would make it my cervix...] only lasting a couple of seconds, but bloody painful. She also said i may have SPD... hoping its just babi sat on a nerve....
Has anyone else been through this. or could give me some advice as worrying slightly =[

Mine's been headdown since about 25 weeks so it's normal. Can't help with teh pain though, maybe a trapped nerve ?

all the pictures in the NHS book have the baby head down from WEEKS ago. Mine was head down at 28 week scan, think that's perfectly normal - and we want it to stay that way up! I guess you might be thinking it's bad in case blood runs to head, but i don't think it works like that?

Nothing to worry about if the head is down - think they usually end up that way up quite early cos the head is the heaviest part of the baby

Mine was head down at 28 weeks too... but has flipped to transverse... eek! Hopefully still time to flip back (31 wks now)

There is no problem at all with baby being head down, but the chances are they will move around quite a lot between now and birth, all quite normal so no need to worry. I'd say the pains were not in your cervix, but either baby on a nerve or stretching pains from ligaments accomodating your growing womb (again very normal). It may well be SPD, in which case I hope your midwife has given you tips on reducing it's severity and perhaps a referral to a physio? If you have the money I would recommend an osteopath or chiropractor for SPD pain (if that is what it is).
Are you concerned about premature labour?

thanks everyone, reikizen, she has sent a letter to the physio at my local hosp and I am waiting for an appointment through the post, but she said it could be a good few weeks before I hear anything, so am more concerned if it is SPD, I might be doing more harm than good as I don't know how to adjust to it as midwife didn't give me any tips apart from don't cross my legs :S. I am slightly concerned about premature labour, but I'm more worried about doing harm to babi by doing something I'm not supposed to =[

Yes, mine was head down around then - best place for it. Now its bloody breech at 34 weeks, so don't bank on it staying where it is. I just hope it goes back to head down again.

Am pretty sure mine has shuffled into head down in the last couple of days (25 weeks), really uncomfortable with huge whacks coming out both sides of my abdomen (felt like he was moving furniture in there!) and then all over and much more comfortable, bump has shifted slightly down off my ribs as well.

Apparently 90% of babies are head down by 28 weeks according to the Queen Charlotte's Hospital pregancy book, so you're exactly on schedule

Mine was transverse till 20 weeks, then flipped 90 degrees in the wrong direction to footling breech position! Happily he/she has now turned and is head down but it took till 31+4 for that to happen!

With you on the sharp shooting pains - owwww. That's another one of those things that no-one tells you about pregnancy isn't it! [hmmm]

morloth I'm sure mine was moving home as well, and I'm sure movements are supposed to calm down now considering there is less room?! i'm sure mines moving more!

and thanks every1 for all your replies, it was really calmed me down a little, its only cause a few on my friends are pregnant and at similar times, but not head down I was worrying
