I have heard that it can be worse if you are carrying a girl than a boy - is this true? or yet another of these old wives' tales?

please let me know your experience

Nothing at all with DS1 to 3, much worse with DS4 . No idea what I would be like with a girl...

Old wives' tale, IMO.

thumbwitch · 28/11/2009 03:25

hmm, interesting so far...

and of course I meant random

That's what I thought but these "theories" are always nice to have debunked, iyswim.

Mild Hyperemesis Gravidara (sp) (as in manageable without medication, strict limited diet, and acceptance of being sick once a day at least) with DD, throughout my pg from about 7 weeks right to the bitter end.

Severe HG (manageable of sorts eventually with medication, strict diet) with DS this time, even with medication sickness continued throghout, started immediately at 3wks (from period, 1 week from conception), has eased a little towards the end, then picked back up in final week(s?) (who knows he is not here yet!).

So, for me a theory that does not work!

ParanoidAtAllTimes · 28/11/2009 04:51

I was sick every day until about 20 weeks with my ds, then once every couple of weeks or so until the end. Not helping the theory I'm afraid...

thumbwitch · 28/11/2009 05:30

oh pavlov, how awful!
You must be desperate for him to make an appearance...

ah well, never mind the theory then!

thanks for sharing your stories.

Loads of MS when pregnant with DD.

Sick a couple of times when preg with DS.

No MS at all with this preg but I don't know the sex.

jenniferturkington · 28/11/2009 06:23

Hyperemesis (sick at least 10 times a day, lost weight up to 20 wks) with DS up to about 18 weeks, then felt nauseous throughout.

Mild morning sickness with DD to about 13 weeks.

Probably never have any more due to experience with first pregnancy (took a decision that I would put up with it a second time in order to have 2 children, as it turned out I was fine!)

flybynight · 28/11/2009 12:03

No sickness with two boys, 16 wks of nausea with daughter, 16 weeks of nausea with my current pregnancy, gender unknown.

BUT my legs are hairier than normal this time, which they were with the boys so who knows?

prettyinpunk · 28/11/2009 17:21

15 weeks of all-day horrendous nausea (no vomiting) with all three DS...

Habbibu · 28/11/2009 17:41

exactly the same with dd and ds - sick til 17 weeks or so.

Amapoleon · 28/11/2009 17:54

No real sickness with dd, sick from almost day 1 to the very end with ds.

suwoo · 28/11/2009 17:58

One girl and 2 boys. Much worse with DD.

Morloth · 28/11/2009 18:01

1st DS, very little sickness, a little queasy if hadn't eaten.

2nd DS (according to scan), violently ill for weeks, skating along the edge of hyperemesis I think, but was able to keep water and plain boiled rice down (most days).

RichardCranium · 28/11/2009 20:59

DS - threw up for 1 entire day in half hour intervals and then twice more on individual occasions, had bad nausea for a lot of the 1st trimester.

DD - had one night of extreme nausea, didn't throw up - TMI but I did poo myself at my booking in appointment the next morning, so it was possibly a bug.

20 weeks pregnant with unknown DC - had 2 weeks of VERY mild nausea in the mornings, but only when I coughed .

gigglewitch · 28/11/2009 21:02

sickness was hideous for first three months with ds1 then pretty much stopped; ds2 nausea throughout pregnancy on and off, dd nothing.

so I'm pretty much the opposite of what the op says

Lilyloo · 28/11/2009 21:03

ds nothing much
dd1 hideous even vomited on myself in the car whilst driving
dd2 same as ds

vixta77 · 29/11/2009 13:48

My sickness was none existant with my son and with my daughter it was horrendous!
This time it was really bad again, and i am having a girl, so in my circumtances having a girl makes me more sick xx

Emprexia · 29/11/2009 13:52

Ds, nothing much.

DD.. awful, and lasted right up to about 25weeks.. it got so bad at abou 22wks that i was throwing up ketones in my samples because i couldn't eat anything.. i was living on cup-a-soup!

My midwife told me it was to do with the hormone levels a girl pregnancy can create.

thumbwitch · 29/11/2009 16:53

thanks all! from your experiences, it seems so random, even having 2 DC the same sex can induce different levels of sickness - I wonder what really does cause it??
