Im 17 weeks pregnant with baby number 5..I lost my last two babies at 23 weeks and 16 weeks so have been very anxious this pregnancy, coupled with every pregnancy problem known to man its not been easy.

I noticed a couple of days ago (apologies for TMI) that I had quite a profuse watery discharge..I could almost feel it running out of me at times..but wearing a pad didnt help as due to a knackered pelvic floor..I leak a little now

I phoned the ante natal ward for advice today and they basically said that because Im under 20 weeks it would be treated as threatened miscarriage so I would have to contact the gynae ward, who would do a speculum exam and she said in all honesty..If I was leaking waters..there is nothing that they could realistically do at this stage and I would just be sent home with advice on what to do if I started miscarrying....Im quite distressed at this tbh..and really dont know what to do...Im not sure I want to subject myself to a speculum exam only to be told they cant do anything...Im really worried and would appreciate some advice

memorylapse, I can't help but I'm so sorry this is happening to you.

But, in your situation, I'd want to know either way. I'd go for the examination. I'll be worrying about you all day now.

memorylapse · 26/11/2009 11:59

well it looks as though I will have to wait until tomorrow as the gynae ward dont accept self referals and I would need to be referred in by my gp..phoned the gps and they have said I cant have an appt until tomorrow so I have to phone first thing.
failing that..Ive been told to take myself off to casualty where they can refer me to gynae..

Get yourself to A&E - you might be out before schools out.

ziggyf · 26/11/2009 14:45

Memory - can your DH not come back from work early and pick up the DCs? I would have thought that any boss would be ok with this if it was an emergency?

I really hope that this is something and nothing.

unfortunately DH is the manager and is not physically able to leave as he would leave the place with no manager.

anyway..I took myself to gynae after speaking to the midwife who refered me there. Arrived at 2 pm and was shown into an examination room by a nurse to await the doctor..3 hours later I was still sat there having had nothing to eat and drink..went up to the nurses station and explained I had gestationnal diabetes and needed to eat..her answer..go to the vending machine and get a mars bar or something..she seemed to know nothing about gestational diabetes and did not offer to try and find me something suitble to eat.
I asked when the doctor would be coming and she shrugged her shoulders and said "could be in the next 5 mins..could be 2hours"....I said I needed to go home to eat and she asked why I was there..explained and she said.."well to be honest you are better off at home if you are miscarrying but I need to document that you refused treatment"...refused treatment!!! what treatment

left the ward in floods of tears and dont know how I drove home tbh..I cant understand why I wasnt sent to an ante natal ward..I wasnt checked over in any way by anyone..Im so upset.I had to book the DC's into after school club as there is no one else to have them....

I cant go back tomorrow and I would have to be re refered by my midwife and then spend all day there again

hi! couldnt leave that last post unanswered... had my last miscarrage at 18+4, do you have any pain with the discharge? do you have an emergancy depatment near you? or could you possibly see your midwife tomorrow and ask her to listen in? also did you mention somewhere that you were measuring large for dates? could that be excess water. also did you stress your history to them? sometimes they are just plain insensitive and stupid. ive been bleed ing with pain for nearly 2 weeks now and got given anti-d injection ( am o- ) and sent home without anyone listening in. got appointment with my midwife today and she listened in ( im 16+4)
ill keep my fingers crosssed that all is well.
hope any of my waffle helps. which area are you in? do you have awomens obnly hospital?
xx

memory I am at the way you have been treated, this is shocking, especially your history, where abouts are you, I would complain to the hospital if I were you.......

itshappenedagain · 26/11/2009 18:54

i would go to a nd e in the morning, explain history and that you are worried. tonight if you can when partner gets home.
stress to them that you have had late miscarrages and that you do not want to have to wait and see what happens. it really pisses me off...i was made to wait for 4 and a bit hours when pg with DS after 4 MCs blleding through many pads only to get in ther for them to say why didnt you tell us previous history! i wanted to screem youve had my notes for fucking hours look at them!!!!
luckly i have a lovely friend who is a midwife and i now take her along to all appointments ( arraged around her work).
it wasnt even on my records that i had had MCs previously ( 6 in total, three in second trimester) untill she pointed it out. i now have to have more monitoring.

memorylapse · 26/11/2009 19:23

I will be complaining to the hospital..no point going to a and e I will wait hours then be sent to gynae..why the hell is pregnancy a gynae problem?/..im a high risk pregnancy with gestational diabetes and Im told I will only be seen in gynae
