hiys
im 32 weeks pregnant, i have just gotten over a bad cold, my nose is still snotty but not as bad as before, when i woke up i noticed my throat was proper swollen, i think its my tonsils that have swollen, the dangly thing in your throat is proper touching my tounge n it feels like somethink is stuck in my throat, it makaes me need to swollow often as my body thinks there is something stuck in my throat. this has only happened to me once before when i had tonsilitus. i have a little pain in my throat but not bad enough to be tonsilitus, im really worried as i have asthma aswell, i cant take any painkillers like ibuprofen
does anyone know what will help my throat? if i go to the walk in centre they would just say its not bad enough to treat, my bf had a really bad infection in his gums which swollen up his mouth to twice the size and they did nothing! any advice pls?

Sounds awful Michelle89.
Having had glandular fever at 15 I had a series of throat and tonsil type virus's for many years after so i know what it's like.

Ok naturally for relief and to help throat.
Manuka Honey (safe in PG), natural yogurt, pinapple juice.

Vitimin C is a must and also has a anti-inflamatory effect so will help with swelling. Take good quality one from a health store and not a chemist. You can take as much as 3000mg per day whilst ill as what you don't use will be pee'd out! Check with health shop to make doubly sure this amount is ok in PG.

You can gargle TCP - It aint pleasant but it helps the infection tremendously.

Get other advice from health shop as they are the best place to go to get all natural remedies whilst PG.

Good luck and if it seems to go for your voice box (larengitis) the trick is not to speak, it makes it worse. x

uh? Cant you go to your Dr and get a checkup, you prob have a throat infection, and therefore might need basic antibiotics (which are safe to take whilst pregnant..).Surely ifit is affecting you this much the medics at the centre have to treat you?? Or change centre..?!

You should go to dr, uvulitis (when the uvula/dangly bit is swollen) can be serious as it can affect your breathing.

and even if its just swollen from tonsillitis it still sounds like it needs treatment, IMO.

Well, maybe you should make one for tomorrow and you can cancel it if you are better?

I had a similar problem when I had tonsillitis a couple of years ago (not PG at the time). Water was trickling into my lungs when I tried to swallow. It was very frightening. NHS24 said it had to be taken very seriously if it was affecting my breathing/ swallowing and sent me to A&E.

I was diagnosed with a condition called quinsy (sounds medieval doesn't it) and given emergency antibiotics and threatened with a hospital stay. The swelling popped and drained soon after (sorry if TMI!)

If it is alarming you, speak to NHS24. It IS frightening when your basic functions are threatened.

Yes, I agree, if you feel like you won't be able to breathe if it gets worse, and tell them that, they WILL take it seriously.
