Feeling rotten after amnio - anyone had similar?

I had my amnio last Thurs and initial results are fine, thank goodness. (Am 16 weeks.) But since Saturday I've been feeling really rubbish, and not the side-effects I would have expected. Queasy (have never had morning sickness before), sore head, a bit dizzy and spaced-out, and an almost constant ache right across the whole uterus area - just like a period pain. It really feels as if something is trying to get out ...

I went to the hospital yesterday and they took temperature, blood etc and checked there was no infection - I also heard the heartbeat which of course was v v reassuring! But I'm still feeling yucksville. Hoping it's just a bug I've coincidentally picked up, but that wouldn't explain the big ache, would it? They told me at the amnio just to expect little localised twinges around where the needle went in, but not this. M/w yesterday didn't seem particularly concerned, but has anyone else experienced similar, to put my mind at rest?

Have 2 DC already and 2 normal pgs, and am not usually so paranoid! First amnio though. x

Had amnio and felt like they told you, localised pain when I move around the point of entry of the needle (sometime very painful). I felt like you though, when I ate something bad few weeks before, it is quite difficult to make the difference between uterus pain and bowel troubles (gas or diarrhea) sorry TMI. Rest and I hope you will get better.

hi.I had CVS twice which is sort of milder procedure and happens a lot earlier.Still I was supriced to constantly hear my doctors/medical staff here(in the UK) telling me all the time that it's nothing serius, dont stay at bedrest for a while, just go back to work ON THE SAME DAY!!! ACTas normal etc.In my country with my 1st pregnancy CVS I stayed 72hours bedrest and monitored 3-4 times in the next 2 weeks to make sure the baby was ok and no miscariage happened. So allthough Iam not doctor Id say the pain is probably natural but I would go for a scan to see if there is some blood or something at the area(something you cannot of course know just by hearing the heartbeat). Also, even if it sounds naive Id say get as much rest as you can.amnio and CVS are invasive procedures and allthough they nowadays look common are still something that requires your attension.

forgot to say I had some similar side-effects as you do and they told me to expect them.
all the best with your results.

Thanks both, that's reassuring. Maybe I was just expecting it to be more of a minor procedure than it was. I mean, you can't even see the needle mark any more! Hopefully a few more days of taking it easy will do the trick ...
