Asthma - help

Asthma hasn't been good for a few days now but today is at its worse. Inhalers are not helping, chest is so tight am coughing when i just breathe in. It's 9.20pm and really don't know what i should do...should i go to local hospital and what could they do anyway? The weather, hayfever and asthma are wearing me out..help pls.

If your inhalers are not working you should definately contact a doctor for further advice. It is really common for the extreme heat (which also leads to poor air quality) to affect asthma and can lead to a serious attack. Please ring your local out of hours service/A & E now.

I am presuming that you are pregnant due to the thread type? Don't think that there is nothing that can be done because of this. There is lots that can be done. Also it is important that something is done as gasping for breath and been short of oxygen is not good for your baby. Have you rung anyone yet??

there is something called a 'saltpipe' which is natural and can be used in pregnancy - there are 2 types i've seen on ebay if you are interested
for hayfever i would buy an indoor plant spray (the type they spray the leaves with) fill it with water, put it on the fine mist setting and spray it around the room, yourself, around doors and windows.
another thing i use is a 'neti' its like a little teapot that you fill a little cooled boiled water with teaspoon of sea salt and pour it inside your nostrils. it washes all the pollen away then put vasaline up your nose and coat the inside and outside of your eyelashes if you get itchy eyes.
if really bad have shower, wash hair and change clothes - remember to use a dryer rather than the washing line as pollen gets on everything
another thing i use for hayfever is 'luffa complex' (tincture) by bioforce. hope it helps xx

if you cant breath and inhalers r not helping then go to a+E as they can put u on a nebuliser to help get your breathing stabalised. Try not to panic hun as i know the attacks can grab u like that sometimes...especially when pg..

have just spoken to lady at primary care and the doctor is due to call me back. Am sitting patiently by the phone. DH is cooking smelly chicken and i think on top of it all am going to puke..what a night!

chacha do u have ur own peak flow meter..i know when ive been bad sometimes i have been asked for readings from it

Nemo, i have one...somewhere Haven't used it maybe in about 2 years. Wake up call or what. Hope Dr. calls soon, phone keeps ringing and sound like heavy breather..ppl wondering who the hell is in our home i suppose

Just wanted to thank everyone who was online last night when i needed advise. GP advised us to call 999, we did, ambulance was sent out was given nebuliser but woke in the early hours just as bad. Ambulance called out again, was taken to hospital and was looked after by lovely nurse - was given more nebuliser and some steroids. Respiratory nurse paid me a visit, upgraded the inhalers (along with a new one) and has put me on a course of steroids. The steroids she said are often given to women who labour early to help develop the baby's lungs so says they are quite safe. Back home and have had lots of rest.

I was given prednisolone when pregnant .. and countless nebulisers .. (I had pregnancy-induced asthma .. didn't have it before, nor since)

chacha im glad you were seen and sorted out hun. prednisilone[sp]are great i have had them a few times due to the asthma and they do help to sort yourself out. Take care and take it easy

Do these steroids make you paranoid or weepy? Or is that simply pregnancy hormones? Have really got it in for people today I'm also on antihistamines (sp) just one a day...awwww..i'm terrible today!!!!
