I have been given 2 boxes of the capsules and I'm hoping to be PG again soon and am wondering they're safe to take.

Hi biscuit

They are safe to take before preg but I think (i could be wrong and so check the label and speak to a pharmacist) they have a hugh vit A content, which is not safe when you are preg.

I believe that they are safe. I took them during pgcy and would have checked for things like Vit A - but I suggest you double-check for yourself as could be a different make.

If its flax oil or fish oil it should be ok (as long as it is a reputable brand, and has no other ingredients). If its not a good brand, using fresh fish from unpolluted seas, then it may well contain higher levels of toxins than you would like!
If its cod liver oil or fish liver oil, you cannot take it, as these are the ones with high vitamin A content.

The Vit A is only found in Cod Liver Oil. Ordinary fish oil doesn't have any vit A in at all, only vit e as a preservative.

Yes they are completely safe to take, and actually are good for you both. They aid foetal brain development, and help prevent post natal depression by helping build uo DHA levels in the mother.

I can't speak for your capsule brand though, without knowing what they are, but a generic 369 would be fine athough probably weaker than I would normally recommend to patients.

Thank you so much - the brand is 'vertese' and it says suitable for vegetarians (which I'm not but that's neither here nor there), so plant derived.

ingredients include vit E, flaxseed oil, evening primrose oil (is this ok???), rosemary oil, soya lecithin, rice bran oil.

says 3-6-9 in a balance ratio of 2:1:1

Its not safe to use Rosemary oil during pregnancy, although its possible that your capsules only contain a tiny amount.

PrettyCandles · 22/11/2009 18:34

That's what I took. But ingredients change and I don't remember anything re Rosemary oil.
