Husband needs advice! Wife having dizzy spells

Mums, Would appreciate your advice. My wife is 31 weeks pregnant and keeps getting dizzy spells (her ears block and the room spins and it lasts for about an hour each time) - I feel a bit useless, how I can best help her when these episodes happen? She has been to the doctor who said it was not blood pressure related but probably viral but she has been taking it easy and has no other symptoms. Anyone else had this and what did you do?

Hiya, I've had the same. My bp is also fine, and the mw wasn't unduly concerned. The only thing I've really done about it is try to make sure I'm eating healthily and getting as much rest and sleep as possible (not always possible, but you do what you can)

My ears didn't block, but I did have the dizzy sensation for at least an hour each time, so it's not like a head rush thing. Has the gp ruled out an ear infection or something to do with the inner ear? That can effect balance.

Another thing to consider... is there something that links these attacks. I did wonder if it was related to food, as I've had them a few times after a meal, so I thought possibly I was getting light headed as blood was diverted to digest my food. Just a theory of mine, I never asked the mw about it.

Could she be anaemic?

I was severely anaemic with DD2 and had some terrible dizzy spells which only improved when the anaemia was diagnosed and treated.

Thanks so much for your reply. The doc did say she thought it was to do with viral infection of inner ear but couldn't give anything to stop it happening. The only thing that seems to link these spells is if she gets worked up i.e too stressed or too excited or over tired etc which i suppose is quite difficult to control with our baby due so soon!

Hi, I had dizzy spells with my first pregnancy, the only thing that helped a little once one started was to lay on my side on the floor until it passed. I had all manner of tests plus 1/2 day hooked up to monitors in hospital, all of which indicated it was Just One Of Those Things, possibly caused by the baby pressing against something, possibly not.

I was advised to avoid driving, to keep cool, to keep well hydrated and to take things easy. They lasted about 2 months then went away in my last month.

I never did work out what was causing them, but did find that overheating and sitting or standing in a fixed position for any length of time seemed to bring them on.

Could it be labyrinthitis?. Symptoms are often triggered by turning head too fast?

If she feels sick with it she could safely take Stemetil/Prochlorperazine to help. Other than that it just has to burn itself out.

Wow, that's uncanny - im 31 weeks and suffering exactly the same! Dizziness which seems tolast for a while. I thought it might be BP related...
