i dont know whether to leave it for a few more weeks or would that be too late?

its my first baby and i have a list from my ante natal class of essential stuff but is there anything that other people found they needed whilst they were in, even if its just silly little things?

the hospital is about 30 mins drive from my house so id rather have most things with me than having my mum or whoever rooting around for it, even though they would happily.

thanks x

It is never too early to pack the hospital bag, so just do it.
As long as you have the essentials packed, you will be fine - anything else can be brought in later. As well as those, include packable food - biscuits, cereal bars, sweets, chocolate etc. Throw in some nice sandwiches at the last minute. The food is required because hospital food is still really, really dire. Even the toast is horrid. If you have your own food, you will feel much better.
An Evian water spray (not cheap) helped me loads in labour when I was really hot and sweaty, but some women find it annoying.
Also, if you have any old, shameful-type pants that are past their best, pack them, use them after delivery and then bin them. The more old pants the better .

Get the car seat fitted nice and early too. My son arrived at 37 wks and we ended up trying to figure out how to fit the seat in the hospital car park.

I agree with Dillie, pack the majority of it now and just top it up with nibbles when you're off to the hospital. I hadn't packed mine by 37 weeks and had to do it while I was in labour. I hadn't packed a going home outfit and ended up in a bizzare assortment of bits that DH grabbed on the day I was coming home

Don't put your bananas in yet though !

And remember to take them out afterwards....I didn't and found one crawling with maggots a couple of weeks later!!

Oh, and good luck with the birth

BexieID · 21/11/2009 20:11

Tom was 6 days late and I still hadn't packed bags for hospital!

I was 35 weeks yesterday. I will be packing next week as need to get baby stuff from the PIL tomorrow.

im 36 weeks on monday and figured that i will make a start! but no its not to early!

whensmydayoff · 22/11/2009 10:38

I had my DS at 36.6 weeks. Not too early.

I totally recommend making sure you know everything there is to know about the car seat, pram, steriliser (even if your BF), more than anything.
I watched my rather blonde friend struggle with everything as it didn't occur to her she might be exhausted and beyond the engineering skills required to fold a pram!

MummyTumble · 22/11/2009 18:17

I had DS at 36 weeks - so no not too early

madmissy · 22/11/2009 20:03
