Should I avoid my friend with shingles?

Hi, I'd made plans to see my friend next week and she's just called to say she has shingles and, whilst she's been told it's not contagious, she'll understand if I want to postpone it. Should I avoid her? I'm 20 wks pg, had chicken pox myself as a child and have read on the web that's it's not contagious. But my irrational pregnant heart is saying delay for a week. Is this silly? I don't want to make her feel like a leper!

What would you do?

Actually someone with active shingles can transmit chicken pox ( DS2 just had CP so had a leaflet from the GP). As it's theoretically possible (though unlikely) you could get CP again, i would postpone for a week if it's not urgent.

I have had chicken pox twice if that helps any.

I would avoid it if I could - am also 20 weeks - just to be on the safe side. Plus wouldn't want the 'germs' on me in case I pass them to other 3 kids iyswim?

I realise what I just said is probably not scientifically correct and I will be promptly corrected but I know what I mean.

My DD has had shingles twice! As you say you can't catch Shingles. In order to get Chicken Pox off someone with shingles you have to have physical contact with the open blisters. The doctors told me DD was fine to go to school as long as she was well in herself and the rash was covered.
At the end of the day, do what you feel comfortable with.

Have had shingles when a teenager and I am sure you can get more info on the nhs direct site but it is actually a herpes virus. So its a bit like catrching a cold sore off someone. Do you intend to rub your self on her open sores? If not you will be fine.
