GD picked up v late last preg. Just had 2nd GTT this week at 28wks. 9.4 after 2 hrs. Being referred to diabetes clinic, scan, consultant etc.

Even though had it b4, panicky. How bad is 9.4. What happens now? And what can I do. Will the baby be ok?

I don't have GD but I have a type one for the last 21 years.

9.4 starts to be a bit high, if you consider that the 'normality' is 5.5

For my pregnancy I have been told that I need to be between 3 and 6. But I have to confess I do sometimes go well over the 6.

Regarding the what you can do, I don't really know but I'll say go and see the diabetes specialist and in the mean times (sp) try to limit your intake of sugar (easier say than done).

Good luck

Hi nummy I had impaired gtt at 26 weeks and was 9.8 after 2 hours, which they said was high but not dangerously.

I have managed to control with diet for the past 4 weeks but it has been creeping up this week and have just been prescribed a tablet to take with meals (which i am not going to take till i speak to my consultant on monday as it says in the leaflet not to take during pregnancy!)

I have managed to control just by cutting out everything sugary but apparently as the baby has got bigger my pancreas is not coping so has pushed the blood sugar level up. You shoudl have a scan in the next couple of weeks to check the babies size

I was bit mortified as don't remember it being anywhere near 9 last time, but perhaps that is just memory.

So just how bad is 9 after 2 hrs. Fretting all last night and worrying about baby.

Please don't worry too much.

I'm 31 weeks now, and was diagnosed at 28 weeks after the GTT came back at 12.7 after two hours. I was given a consultant appointment the next week, and am currently monitoring my blood sugars a couple of times a day. I'm not on medication - yet, but i expect to be put on metformin at this weeks appointment as i've had several high blood sugars and i have +++glucose in my urine.

I had a GTT in my previous pregnancy, and it came back fine, although they do think i may have developed GD at some point as DD was unusually big - much bigger then they were expecting, and i'm told i'm in for another biggie this time if i go to term.

As i said, please do try not to worry - when do you go back to see consultant?

Demented are you ahppy to take metoformin? I got prescribed it yesterday but have read the leaflet with it and it says if you are on the tablet and you get pregnat you should stop taking the tablet and go on insulin. I rang the bigger hospital that is near us where i will be delivering (as our local hospital is in the process of closing and not the most reliable), anyway the doctor i spoke to on the delivery suite said it is not licensed for pregnant women yet and they are just trialing it on pregnant women!!! I am not happy cos i wasent told this when prescribed, i havent took it yet and going to speak to my consultant on monday x
