If they do how long do they usually work for? Got an old test in my drawer probably about 12-18 months old. It's a boots own one.

Yes, check the box

If out of date, don't use

I used an out of date one - BFN

Got amother test the same day - BFP

Yes. It should be stamped on the box or on the foil packet. I think most shop bought ones usually have a year or two on them, so you should be all right, but it does depend how long it was sitting on the shelf for before you got it.

Sorry didn't explain my OP very well. I've already done the test and think it was negative. At first it looked like there was a very faint line but I took the test apart so I could see the strip on it's own and there wasn't a line. However a few weeks later I still have no period. I don't know how late I am because I don't really keep tabs on it but I haven't had a period for about 13 weeks I think.

I'd be buying a new one to make sure... Fingers crossed you get the answer you're after

I remember a friend of mine getting neg tests, only to find out she was actually pregnant.

She never kept track of her dates either and found the reason she was getting negs was because she was in fact 14 weeks pregnant and apparently, the further along you are, the less chance there is of getting a BFP as the HCG levels decrease after 12 weeks.

HTH

How many weeks was she when she got a positive test?

Well I've done another test which was negative but still haven't had a period. Gonna test again on the 11th December but I don't think I am as I haven't had any symptoms. If I was then I'm sure it would be positive by then and I'd have had some symptoms or be showing. If still no period after Christmas and New Year I will make an appointment with GP because if I'm not pregnant then something can't be right can it? The earliest I'll be able to do that will be the 4th I think.
