Have my 20 week at 12.30 and I am feeling nervous.
I am always nervous to find out the baby is fine but am extra nervous this time as we are finding out the sex and this is definately the last baby we are having - we have 3 boys.

I have convinced myself this one is a boy but realise there is a small chance it could be a girl and I am not sure how I feel about it all really.

Don't know what I want anyone to say - just want to talk.

Ah, it can be a be nerve-wracking can't it?

Would you secretly really like the baby to be one variety or the other?

FWIW when I found out DD was a girl (probably) I was sad for a little while for the boy she wouldn't be, even though I had really hoped we would have a daughter that time.

Hope all goes well.

piggybank · 20/11/2009 10:03

I hope everything goes well!! I was nervous for mine too :-)

GuernseyFrench · 20/11/2009 10:05

Try to relax (I know it's easier say than done!).
If it's a boy, just think that you have all the gears already and if it's a girl, you may in the future be the bride's mother! lol!

More seriously, good luck, everything will be fine

LadyOfTheFlowers · 20/11/2009 10:18

Yeah, I am trying to relax.

Thing is, DH originally wanted 2 and I was lucky to get DS3 out of him. I did not feel I was 'done' with 2.

Obv. DS3 was a boy and I wasn't bothered as I thought we are only late 20's, we are sure to have one more.

Then once I had 3, decided I was done, accepted I had 3 boys - lovely.

This time being preg. was a 'suprise' and it is all stirred up again. This is DEFINATELY it now.
If this one is a boy too, that will be pretty cool to have 4 the same sex, but if it is, I will never be 'Mother of the Bride', never have what I have with my Mum.... having girls is like something that happens to other people, not me.

I know I should just be grateful for the children I have and I am - they are wonderful, but can't help feeling I will be missing out if I have another boy.

I hope everything goes fine with the scan.

Do you have to find out the sex? If you're stressing about it, leave it as a surprise. Everyone is different, but your reaction now to the abstract idea of a boy or a girl is probably different to how you would feel after the birth. I would imagine that if you go through birth and hear "It's a [whatever]," you'll be thrilled with either sex.

Also, everyone misses out on something with the family they have -- if you have a 4th boy, you won't know what it's like to have a little girl, but having 4 boys is something special that few people get to experience!

LuckyC · 20/11/2009 12:50

How did it go????????

lumpasmelly · 20/11/2009 13:03

i know how you feel - I have 2 DSs and I love them to bits...was delighted when I found out that DS1 was a boy. now I am pregnant with number 3, and I was convinced that the baby would be a boy...and very happy with that. however at my 12 weeks scan the sonographer guessed girl using the "nub theory" so now the idea is in my head, and I am worried I will be disappointed if he i proven wrong!!!.....silly really, as I was totally ready to have 3 boys, but nowI find myself staring at little girl clothes longingly!!!

Hope all was well at the scan! I know what you mean, i have DD1 and am 34 weeks preg with DD2! We are really really happy but did have the discussion after the scan about never seeing our little boy (family is complete now. I think lol) DF wanted to take him fishing and to football matches etc. I think he was a little bit sad about that but it didn't last long. We can't wait to meet our little girl and i am thrilled for DD!! I have a brother 8 years older so never experienced having younger siblings or any that i could really relate to iykwim.

4 DS's is pretty special!! Hope all is well.

sheeplikessleep · 20/11/2009 13:28

Hope it all went well?
We found out last week we are expecting ds2 and it's been a hard week since, more for the fact that I'm peeved off with myself for feeling a bit disappointed will never have a daughter (or unlikely to). However, things that have helped me have been (A) allowing myself to get upset and be sad for the daughter I'll never have (B) thinking of other single-sex children families and how well their children get on and how close they are. Give it time - whatever way it goes (or has gone), every child is different, in their own unique way. But don't be hard on yourself if you do feel disappointed. You'll be head over heels when baby is here - you know that, but give yourself space to come to terms with not having a daughter.
That said, may be a girl anyway! Whichever way, hope all goes well and maybe go shopping for some new cute baby clothes, if it is a boy?

Abubu · 20/11/2009 14:22

Hi,

I know how you feel (but the other way round).
We have beautiful twin daughters and I am now pg with number 3. I think if we have another girl (scan in 3 wks) DH will slightly mourn the son he will never have and I will be perfectly happy but a bit mournful for him, as there definitely won't be any more!
Good luck!

Abubu · 20/11/2009 14:28

Lumpasmelly -

Just curious - whats the nub theory?

Thanks.

sheeplikessleep · 20/11/2009 15:05

Ladyoftheflower - how did you scan go?

LadyOfTheFlowers · 20/11/2009 17:18

Think the nub theory is a little white line at the base of the spine - if it is dead straight it's a girl, slightly angled forwards a boy - I think. I stumbled across it a few weeks ago and studied some scan images, trying to match them up to mine, but mine had been blown up to cut the bottom of the baby off.

Anyway..... I had my scan......

I am having.......

A GIRL!!!!

(still not sunk in)

Congratulations!!!!
Was watching this at lunchtime and couldn't wait to hear your news!

maybebaby23 · 20/11/2009 19:30

Ah lovely news!!! Congratulations all over again!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 20/11/2009 19:39

Thanks all.

Still don't think I quite believe it and I know they can get it wrong, but she honed the picture in really sharp on the poor little tots' dainty bits and there was absolutely no sign at all of a tidger. Before she even started looking at those parts DH and I couldn't believe how sharp the picture was - so clear, you could see her nostrils and lips and everything when she pointed it out.

I asked her to re-examine the area another 2 times which she did do, without huffing and puffing and said it deffo looked like a girl. I nearly fainted - lucky was lying down.

We have to go back next Friday so they can scan her heart as she was facing inwards and despite being sent away for a 15 minute jump around I couldn't get her to move round, so I will ask whoever it is to check again - then I will have a second opinion!
