Just found out - want to tell everyone but will try to keep it a secret until Christmas when I should be around 8 weeks - is this too early? When did you tell? My kids are 11, 11 and 6.

I don't have children that age, but we held off telling our nieces and nephews until we got to the 12 week mark.

Congratulations

I hoped not to tell DS (4) until 12 weeks ish but didn't last that long. I was sick and he was concerned that I was ill, plus I told a friend and her DD heard and I was worried the DD would spill! So we told him at about 7/8 weeks I think. We did say that there was a baby inside me, but babies don't always grow properly and it might not come out so we'd have to wait and see - in case of problems.

congratulations .

My kids are similar age to yours and if I am successful this month I will be waiting for the 12 week scan.

I have just told DS (4) after a scan at 17 weeks but he doesn't understand really.

blametheparents · 18/11/2009 12:57

We waited until about 17 weeks or so.
Nine months / 40 weeks is a long time for a child to wait, even at 11!
Also, wanted to be as sure as I could be that there would be no problems, so for me would def wait until after 12 week scan.

OK thanks all. Will try to keep it in a bit longer!

I told my two (4 and 2) at about 14 weeks, mainly because some of the other parents at my childminder's had twigged, and I didn't want the children (particularly DD1) to hear it from anywhere else but us. DD2 couldn't have cared less, mind you....

Congrats - children are a blessing xxxxx

if you can hold off for a while it will be better. Positive thoughts and share it on here! get it out scream and shout while alone of course! i was so excited and wasnt sure how to tell the kids but after a scan that confirmed all was well we sat them down- 14,9,8,3 they thought we were moving, was getting a puppy buying a new car and won the lottery! but was screams and excitement when i said "no just, a baby for new years" faces was priceless and 9 year old said" ermmm how"

We decided to tell DS1 (age 4) as soon as we knew i.e. at about 4 weeks. This was because I was already suffering from extreme fatigue (same as 1st time round) and we didn't want him to be worried that either Mummy was poorly or that Mummy didn't want to do stuff with e.g. play, swimming etc. He took it really well and has been excited ever since (now 19 weeks). We helped him understand how long it would take before the baby was born by relating the due date to Christmas and his birthday etc.

You know you're kids better than anyone else and you'll know best when and how to tell them.
