How accurate is gender prediction at 12 weeks. Sil went to fetal medecine centre and they told her 70 - 80 percent chance of a girl based on direction of tubercule (?) Apparently the great Nicolaides himself took a look and concurred! Don't want her to get her hopes up too much as she is desperate for a girl after 2 boys......what are other MNers experiences with this?

I asked at the FMC at 13 weeks.... the Dr didn't want to say for sure, but thought it was a girl (which is what I thought anyway - I was so sure, I don't know why). I just had another scan - NHS this time - at 21 weeks and they confirmed it was a girl (had a very clear view!)... but I have read posts on here where people have had a similar experience to me... and then had a surprise at the birth!

I've always been told that they can never really confirm its a girl at 12 weeks scan as bits ould be hiding etc etc. In fact the 20 week scan can also be a bit dodgy to confirm a girl. My freind paid privately for a sexing scan after 20 week scan just to confirm sex and therefore avoid the 'oh s**t we've bought the wrong colour' scenario. I've heard a few stories of people being told it's a girl when in fact it was a boy. You couldn't miss my boys bits on the scan which pleased his dad no end.....I told him they do zoom in them you know LOLOLOLOLOLOL

I went to FMC for scan at 12 weeks for twins, they said 99% sure one a boy and 70% the other a girl - they were right. Something about how they are presented. Also heartbeats are v different for boys and girls, one much faster than other, which is how we could tell which was which when I was being monitored later in pg.
Good luck to your SIL!
