UTI or something else - should I be worried?

Last week after my check-up I noticed in my notes that there had been a trace of blood detected in my urine sample, but my midwife hadn't mentioned it. Since then I have started to feel not great - initially I suddenly felt really big, as if my stomach was about to burst (which was worrying, as I am not 30 weeks yet!). Since then I've felt pains round my back (kidneys?), a kind of tight feeling across my stomach, generally tired and not quite right. I find it hard to tell what is just normal pregnancy side effects and what might be something else. I did have a UTI shortly before becoming pregnant, and some of the symptoms felt similar. Am seeing a GP this afternoon, but am worried they will have to send sample off to check and if it is a UTI I will have to wait days to get anything done about it. Am also worried it is harming the baby. Sorry if TMI - am sitting here in my dressing gown worrying and looking for some reassurance!

Take a sample with you - the gp should just be able to do a dip test and usually a UTI will show up this way.

It is important to treat a UTI in later stages of pregnancy so you are doing the right thing by going to your gp, hopefully it'll just be a case of getting some antibiotics and you'll feel much better soon.

Good luck and try not to worry.
