When can they tell the actual position of baby??

I saw the mw last week at 28 weeks and she had a feel and couldnt tell how my baby was lying.

My next appointment isnt for another 6 weeks and Im worried she is breech - Loads of kicks down below that I didnt have when pg with dd.

Im sure they could tell early on when I was pg with dd. Maybe its because I have no stomach muscles left from last time and have been eating a few too many biscuits

Any ideas?? If I go back at 34 weeks and the baby is breech is it too late to fix? Do they scan to confirm it?

very common to not be able to feel at 28 weeks, nice doesn't even recommend palpating for position, just measuring your tummy size.

if baby is breech at 34 weeks they not even do anything then.

they often don't try and turn a breech baby until 36-37 weeks cos if they do it too early, its likely to turn back again, esp when its not your first

I wouldn't worry about it

I'm 27 weeks and my GP reckoned he could tell that my baby was head down at my checkup last week but I don't believe him. Anyway sometimes I can feel kicks/punches at either side of my belly at the same time so baby must be lying sideways but other times I feel it up near my ribs and other times down low so I think at this stage they can move around lots. So even if it was head down or breech or tranverse lie it wouldn't matter as tomorrow it might do something else!

Easier said than done but try not to worry about it until about 8 weeks time.

DD1 actually turned after her due date, so don't worry, there is loads of time for them to turn! And they will normally do an ECV and try to turn the baby up until you give birth so really, don't worry.

I agree with jackBauer. The baby will continue to turn up until the final moment. My midwife said on my next visit we will try and find the position of the baby and I will be 35wks at that time. Before then she hasn't bothered with it so it just depends on who you see.

My MW told me my baby was transverse at my last appt (28 weeks) but we agreed it was kind of irrelevant at this stage given how much the baby will reposition himself over the next couple of months.

There was a very obvious bottom and head on either side of my tummy, and she established which was which by finding where the HB was with her doppler.

I frequently feel this baby do weird whole body movements like he's in a washing machine. Sometimes tickly, other times uuurrgh.

You really shouldn't worry about position at 28 weeks - baby has at least another 10 weeks to sort itself out yet. I think if it's your first pregnancy they would expect the head to be down and starting to engage at around week 35/36 but that's just a generalisation and I'm sure many don't!

I wouldnt worry, babies can turn up to about 36/37 weeks, so they will go on what they feel at that time.

Thanks all, I wasnt sure how late they can turn. Will stop worrying now
