I know it's usual to wait until after the 12 wk scan to tell people......but

why exactly? Is it because it's after the 12week scan? The reason I ask is that I had an 8wk scan and it showed all OK (with heartbeat). So should I wait for the 12wk scan anyway?

Does that make sense?

Congrats on your pg. it is entirely up to you whether to wait or not - depends on how you feel, your history, etc.

FWIW, I saw a hb at 7+2wks with pg#4 but that ended in mmc at 10+5wks...I also saw a hb with pg#6 at 7+5wks and again at 9+5wks but that pg also ended in mmc at 10+4wks so I would never tell anybody before about 20wks but then that is just me. Good luck with your pg.

Congratulations.

A reason to consider is that the 12 week scan should show a number of developmental problems that might not show at 8 weeks. Espcially if you chose to go down the nuchal scan route.

My policy is to tell people I'd want to know if it goes wrong and not people who you'd rather not know anything very personal about you. Being pregnant can feel scary and really exciting, so it's natural to want to share it with someone. Yes, thing can go wrong, including after 12 weeks, but mostly they tend to work out - that's why there are so many of us.

The main reason is that for various reasons, the chances of miscarriage drop substantially after 12 weeks. Obviously it can still happen, but there is a much smaller chance. People wait until the scan, because at that check up, they can see that the fetus is developing as it should.

Is a very personal decision. Immediate family were told after I saw hb on dating scan, but I told no one else until the 12 week scan. I know others who waited until 20weeks.

I told my family as soon as I found out at 2 weeks.....mind you think that was down to the the shock of it all!! I figured if anything was wrong or anything would happen then they would know anyway. Oh accidently typing something about fairground rides and morning sickness not going well on my status on facebook meant the world knew when I was 6 weeks!! That was comedy
Think it depends on how you think you'd react if something was to go wrong. Also telling people early has made this seem like the longest pregnancy in the world!!!!

thank you for replies. for wouldlovetoknowwhy, that must have been V hard.

Think I will bear in mind CocoK's point that only tell those who I'd tell if something went wrong anyway.

See how the 12wk scan goes. This is a good reminder not to count my chickens....

thanks again all.
